The Design Engineer I position is responsible for assisting with projects in the development or improvement of products throughout the development life cycle. Work may include ideation, modeling, testing, and manufacturing transfer of previously non-existent products, modifications of existing products, and tooling/fixtures necessary to support production. This position will also discover and cultivate new technologies for use in products or manufacturing processes.
Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in product development projects through the development life cycle.
- Process modified, catalog, and inventory orders using Hammerton’s ERP software.
- Create/update drawings, BOMs, and SOPs to communicate designs to manufacturing.
- Perform cost analysis and design for manufacturability assessments for new and legacy products.
- Develop and execute test plans for the introduction of new products and technologies.
- Act as subject matter expert for products/processes to support other functions.
- Develop product specifications by referring to and developing standards for design and production.
- Implement tools or processes for various manufacturing departments.
- Understand and decipher regulatory standards as they apply to Hammerton products.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field required
- 2-4 yrs Solidworks experience required
- 1-3 yrs product design experience required
Qualifications:
- Technical knowledge of circuits, metal fabrication, glass casting/blowing, and manufacturing processes.
- An ability to internalize constructive feedback and adjust accordingly.
- Proven ability to design for manufacturability.
- Proven ability to get hands on with the creation or diagnosis of products.
- Strong sense of innovation and ability to execute against new ideas.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication.
Working Conditions:
- Approximately 90% desk/computer work.
- Moving about the building is a regular requirement to consult with sales and production teams.
