The Shipping Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and preparing all outbound shipments and related documents. This position follows Hammerton’s shipping guidelines and procedures to determine what is ready to ship and how it will ship. The Shipping Coordinator answers expedite requests and shipping questions from sales and other departments. As a member of the Supply Chain team, they may also be cross-trained and help with other duties within the team.
ESSENTIAL DUTES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and evaluate the shipping schedule to determine what is ready to ship each day.
- Maintain high on-time delivery and customer service expectations.
- Select shipping methods and carriers based on customer requirements and delivery timelines.
- Schedule and coordinate pick-ups with carriers.
- Physically pull, stage, and label packages for carrier pick up.
- Ensure proper paperwork is used and information is entered accurately.
- Operate a forklift and order picker (on-site training and certification provided).
- Proactively communicate issues with sales and manufacturing teams, as needed.
- Maintain safe and organized warehouse to ensure efficient operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in shipping / logistics required.
- International shipping experience helpful.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to use critical thinking skills to solve problems.
- Must be able to lift and move boxes up to 70 lbs.
- Must be forklift certified or have ability to obtain certification (in-house certification available).
- Must be able to follow directions and work with limited supervision.
- Attention to detail required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Majority of time spent in warehouse setting (fluctuating temperatures, forklifts).
- Must be able to lift and move boxes up to 70 lbs.
