We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to add to our talented staff in our Baton Rouge office.
Summary:
Legal Assistants play an essential role in supporting attorneys and other legal professionals in our firm. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication and organizational skills and have a passion for working with others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in preparing and editing legal documents, including memos, briefs, and pleadings.
- Maintain and organize legal files, ensuring that all documents are properly labeled and stored.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings, court dates, and depositions, and remind attorneys of upcoming deadlines and commitments.
- Answer phone calls and take accurate messages, ensuring that information is delivered promptly to the appropriate person.
- Prepare and transmit legal correspondence and emails on behalf of attorneys.
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information to support case preparation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s Degree required; additional education in legal studies is preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience as a legal secretary or in a similar administrative role within a law firm.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and regulations.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Professional and reliable demeanor, with a strong sense of confidentiality and integrity.
Working Conditions:
- May require occasional evening or weekend work.
