What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant – Central Supply position at Hampden County Sheriff's Office?
The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented and energetic full-time Medical Assistant who will be a team player responsible for assisting the nursing staff in the Hampden County Sheriff's facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining adequate supplies, maintaining complete and accurate records and statistical data, filing as appropriate, and assisting the staff nurse in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures.
Duties of the Medical Assistant – Central Supply include:
- Tracks levels of inventory to assure adequate availability of all supplies.
- Develops a working relationship with consumers/vendors for supply orders/purchases.
- Researches supplies through various existing contracted vendors to ensure the cost efficiency of purchased items and stays up-to-date with new inventory logs.
- Works with purchasing department for orders and keeps records of items purchased in order to avoid duplication.
- Consults with vendors regularly for purchasing supplies and equipment.
- Manages all supply inventories, ensuring adequate levels to meet all facility needs.
- Researching and ordering specialty supplies
- Handling and processing medical equipment for sterilization.
- Oversight of emergency bag supplies and equipment, ensuring emergency bag levels are maintained.
- Works closely with infection control nurse in accordance with safe vaccine practices to include oversight of vaccine temp checks.
- Works closely with fire and safety officers for monthly health services audits.
- Management of biohazard room, including inventories of all biohazard boxes and management of deliveries, pickups of biohazard supplies.
- Responsible for the management, control and safe handling of all sharps and tools.
- Accountable for inventory/count books.
- Responsible for coordination of the Optometry schedule, including responsibility for management of eye referrals, scheduling and follow up appointments.
- Coordinates and manages the delivery of specialty equipment rented by the department such as CPAP machines and oxygen concentrators; also responsible for coordinating equipment inspection through the Canine Department.
- Works in collaboration with the infection control nurse for vaccine storage and management.
Work schedule: Must be able to work any shift as directed; the current assignment is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
