Medical Assistant

The Hampden County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team at the Main Institution in Ludlow, Massachusetts. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player, dedicated to providing compassionate care to justice-involved men within our facility, and will possess strong teamwork and communication skills, ensuring effective collaboration within a dynamic healthcare team. Key responsibilities:

• Assist the staff nurse with both administrative and clinical duties.
• Maintain adequate medical supplies and ensure proper organization.
• Accurately document patient records and maintain statistical data.
• Oversee patient self-administration of medication (e.g., insulin) after proper training.
• Take and document vital signs.
• Provide first aid and emergency medical care as needed.
• File medical documents appropriately and ensure confidentiality.

Work schedule: Must be able to work any shift as directed; the current assignment is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Minimum three years of experience in an emergency department, acute care or ambulatory care setting.
• Medical Assistant certification through a recognized certifying agency required.
• Phlebotomy certification or experience.
• CPR and AED certified.
• Must have working knowledge of substance use disorder and be able to identify signs of drug and alcohol intoxication.
• Ability to organize assignments, and develop and maintain accurate documentation.
• Experience using universal precautions and sterile technique.
• Effective communication, verbal and written.
• Maintain known and accessible phone number.
• Valid driver's license.
