The Hampden County Sheriff's Office is seeking a dedicated Per Diem English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our education team at our Main Institution in Ludlow, Massachusetts. This is an exciting opportunity to help justice-involved individuals achieve their educational goals and transform their lives through the power of literacy.
In this per diem, grant-funded role, you’ll provide group instruction in reading and writing to students at various levels, from Adult Basic Education (ABE) to Adult Secondary Education (ASE). You’ll follow the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE) while applying Evidence-Based Reading Instruction (EBRI) strategies to ensure students develop the essential literacy skills needed for success in work and life.
Key Responsibilities :
- Teach reading and writing to students at different educational levels (ABE and ASE).
- Administer assessments, including the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and MA Adult Proficiency Test (MAPT) for student placement and progress tracking.
- Follow grant requirements and instructional standards to support students' growth and achievement.
- Help justice-involved individuals build the skills they need to succeed in education, career, and beyond.

Work Schedule : 16 hours per week, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., preferably Tuesday and Thursday; flexibility needed to work some evening hours based on student needs.

Bachelor’s Degree in related field with 2 or more years of experience as a classroom teacher (K-12) or an adult education instructor (preferably from a correctional education program) required
