This is a unique Product Management opportunity with one of the leading brands in the agriculture sector. Critical to the ongoing and future success of Hampel’s Animal Care division, the Hampel Animal Care Product Manager will act as the Voice of the Customer for Hampel’s Calf-Tel branded product and Hampel’s Animal Care sub-brands: Hampel’s Happy Hut and Hampel’s Ultimate Chicken Coop.
Hampel’s Calf-Tel has been the leader in plastic calf housing for the dairy industry for over 40 years. It is distributed to over 72 countries globally. Hampel’s Happy Hut is a start-up, animal housing brand targeted to the consumer direct and brick and mortar retail. Hampel’s Ultimate Chicken Coop, is a consumer direct and brick and mortar brand targeted to backyard chicken enthusiasts.
This position requires a product management veteran who can intuitively take ownership of the Animal Care product matrix and Hampel’s New Product Development process. The product manager will work cross functionally across sales, marketing, engineering & design and manufacturing to ensure the product matrix is both profitable and meets demand.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Owns Product Life Cycle Management (PLCM) for Hampel’s Animal Care brands and is responsible for the lifecycle management of every product.
- Owns understanding of customer, market competition and business partner needs of assigned products and brands.
- Maintains constant pulse of market landscape including consumer needs, competition and brand position.
- Collects ideas, feedback and customer insights to help inform existing and future products.
- Provides direction to design engineering and product realization counterparts in the form of detailed and comprehensive product briefs and timeline expectations.
- Leads product development, strategy, and redesign from concept through development and manufacturing to market launch.
- Facilitates the NPD process and can provide detailed status of where any development stands in relationship to required timing for launch. Deploys communication protocols to keep stakeholders engaged.
- Is perpetually engaged with design and development resources during the NPD process ensuring that the product will meet customer requirements and expectations in terms of functionality, price, brand aesthetic and launch timing.
- Engages with sales counterparts to gain access to customers and gather research for product opportunity analysis, insights.
- Provides VOC and critical product information, technical data and features and benefits to marketing for development of go-to-market strategies, selling tools and promotional purposes.
- Recommends market-based pricing/margin requirements based on market landscape, end user/customer thresholds and competitive landscape. Conducts price / volume / profit analysis to support and promote sales.
- Assists inside sales to handle/resolve product related customer matters.
- Works with inside sales, marketing, engineering and manufacturing to develop, manage and execute product packaging and freight requirements based on customer channel.
