Job Summary
A Sports Photographer / Videographer performs pre- to post-production of photographs and / or video footage captured during sports events. Typically works on an on-call basis for a specific sporting event.
Essential Job Functions
Takes live fast-action photos at outdoor and indoor sporting events; photographs individual athletes, game / stadium action, fans, practices, and community events.
Shoots and edits videos at outdoor and indoor sporting events; videos individual athletes, game / stadium action, fans, practices, and community events; may create motion graphics.
Edits video and sound to produce full game footage and highlights.
Uploads photos and videos for easy retrieval; maintains a consistent digital asset management system.
Provides fast turnaround of images for web, social media, and news media requests.
Disseminates videos and photographs to media or other third parties as directed.
Travels to various games and events to capture shots and video footage.
May work with student journalists and sports writers as directed.
May assist other event personnel in the set-up, operation, and clean-up of event venues; ticket sales; ushering and crowd control; concession operations; and parking control as needed.
Presents a positive image of Hampton County School District vat all times. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Education and Experience :
Graduation from high school or its equivalent. Coursework in photography and / or videography at a university, college, or vocational-technical school is highly desirable.
Six months of experience as a sports photographer and videographer.
Supports the vision, mission, and beliefs of Hampton County School District.
Knowledge :
Principles, practices, and techniques of sports photography
Specialized equipment, such as high-definition lenses and multi-shutter-speed cameras
Principles, practices, and techniques of post-production and photo-editing
Principles, practices, and techniques of sports videography
Specialized equipment, such as professional or prosumer-grade cameras
Video and sound editing tools
Programs and platforms used to build video and photo galleries, slide shows, and other multi-media storytelling elements
Photo and video editing software and image-management systems
Ability to create electronic reports and presentations, use the internet efficiently, communicate electronically via e-mail, and manage electronic data and files in an organized manner.
Skills / Abilities
Produce high quality sports photography and / or videography
Digitize, edit, and organize video footage
Maintain an extensive database of videos and photos
Test and maintain photographic and video equipment
Be proactive in identifying good shots as they happen
Work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment with attention to detail
Stay abreast of industry technology, techniques, trends, and best practices
Be punctual and dependable
Communicate effectively
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with athletic department supervisors, coaches, student athletes, and the public
Travel to locations throughout the District and California with assigned teams
Working Conditions :
School environment with significant exposure to environmental conditions to include loud environments and exposure to sunlight.
Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and working with students.
Physical demands are activities requiring movement / lifting items weighing up to 75 pounds.
Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
