Elementary/Middle School Special Education Teacher
POSITION TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Arkansas Teaching License
- Certification in Special Education
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Co-teach with regular education teachers to adapt lessons to provide inclusion to all students with disabilities.
- Assess the individual needs, strengths, and weaknesses of students with disabilities.
- Develop an individualized education plan (IEP) for each student based on diagnostic/assessment data.
- Utilize instructional strategies to implement individual education plans for each student.
- Maintain and utilize data collection to monitor and analyze student progress.
- Develop behavior management programs for individual students as needed.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning in both appearance of instructional station and activities therein.
- Counsel with students on individual needs for their academic, personal, social, and career improvement.
- Prepare and follow effective lesson plans to direct the learning activities of students.
- Train and supervise paraprofessionals.
- Ensure that substitutes will have all information necessary for effective instruction.
- Follow adopted district guidelines and procedures for implementation of programs for students identified as having special needs.
- Participate as a team member in all aspects of students’ educational programs.
- Assist in the development of school and district curriculum.
- Supervise students in the school environment in accordance with district policy.
- Assist in the enforcement of school regulations at all times.
- Participate in all prescribed in-service programs.
- Check attendance and report absence and tardies.
- Submit required special education reports and student progress reports. .
- Inform parents of each student’s education program regularly through conferences, phone calls, etc. and work to make parents an integral part of their child’s IEP team.
- Communicate well with parents/guardians, administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals.
- Schedule, attend, and complete required paperwork for Programming/Annual Review Conferences/Referral Conferences/Evaluation and Re-evaluation Conferences, etc.
- Take responsibility for issued materials and equipment.
- Maintain special education files.
- Have a working knowledge of all federal and state legislation and regulations which pertain to the rights and responsibilities of students with disabilities.
- Know Board of Education policies, Desegregation Plan, and district and school guidelines/regulations and adhere to the same.
- Other duties as assigned.
