Laurel Oak Country Club, a private member-owned Golf and Country Club located in beautiful Sarasota, FL is seeking a Spray Technician to join our team!

Laurel Oak Country Club features two championship golf courses, state of the art tennis, swim center with Olympic size pool along with year-round casual and formal dining, offering our members and guests a truly memorable culinary and dining experience.

Must possess a current FL Pesticide Applicator License OR have the ability to acquire one within 90 days at the Club’s expense. After obtaining a FL Pesticide Applicator License, the hourly rate will be increased to $20 an hour.

Job purpose

The Spray and Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems to ensure optimal water distribution for landscaping and agricultural needs. This role involves the precise application of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to promote healthy plant growth and control pests. The technician will work closely with property managers and agricultural supervisors to design efficient irrigation layouts and troubleshoot system issues.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair and maintain irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage and coverage.
  • Calibrate and operate spray equipment to apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers accurately.
  • Monitor and adjust irrigation schedules based on weather conditions, soil moisture levels, and plant requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address system malfunctions, leaks, or clogs.
  • Maintain detailed records of treatments, applications, and system maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with landscape and agricultural teams to design and implement effective irrigation strategies and solutions.
  • Maintains a clean irrigation parts room and chemical room and maintains inventory of the supplies.
  • Operates irrigation heads in dry areas requiring more attention.
  • Completes purchase orders and submits them to the Superintendent for authorization.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of landscape beds.
  • Maintain the chemical spray log and ensure proper reporting in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Spray or pull weeds depending on size, location, variety.
  • Assists the Superintendent in managing the team members.
  • Maintains a clean golf course and maintenance complex.
  • Must be able to perform the duties of an Equipment Operator.
  • Demonstrates courtesy to all Members and guests at all times.

Qualifications

Two years of underground lawn sprinkler system repair and installation experience and spray tech experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working conditions

Work is primarily outdoors. Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or being exposed to flying golf balls.

Physical requirements

Good organizational and verbal skills. Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues. Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, monitors and develops subordinates, visually monitor the operation areas, write and read member communication.

Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 80 lbs. and up to 40 lbs. frequently. Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. Ability to consistently lift, carry and load adaptive and other sports equipment that may weigh 50 or more pounds, and sustain aerobic activity for 20 consecutive minutes.

Please be advised that all work that requires the use of a ladder more than 8 ft. long must be reviewed by Hampton Golfs Club Maintenance person. Following an assessment of the situation, a determination will be made as to whether a maintenance team member or subcontractors will perform the necessary maintenance task. No other staff member is authorized to climb to heights exceeding 8 ft. and/or perform such maintenance. In addition, personnel are prohibited from entering facility attics, walking on the roof of buildings and/or from using scaffolding.

Use the following safety precautions when using an 8ft. ladder:

  • Correct placement of the ladder. The safest angle for a straight ladder is to ensure it is placed on-fourth the distance from the base to the point of support. A frame ladders naturally comply.
  • Ensure the ladder is placed on a firm level surface, and do not place the ladder near a doorway.
  • Ensure there are non-skid shoes on the ladder.
  • If using a medal ladder, be sure that it is not near electrical wires.
  • One person on a ladder at one time, and ensure another staff member is holding the ladder in position.
  • Never overreach.
