JOB SUMMARY: Assists in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure of the hotel in good repair. These duties include carpentry, electrical and mechanical repairs and other maintenance duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Knows and observes safety precautions; inspects and reports discrepancies in policy with regard to maintenance and safety.
- Troubleshoots/overhauls major equipment in the hotel.
- Changes worn or broken parts to solve equipment problems.
- Assists Chief Engineer in administration of an on-going preventive maintenance program for equipment and guest rooms; performs planned maintenance on equipment to prolong life and prevent shutdown, including:
- Repairs furniture and structures, including mending chairs and tables, patching sheetrock, regluing wallpaper, and re-grouting bathroom tiles.
- Repairs and maintains electrical items, including lamps, switches, and receptacles.
- Repairs and maintains heating and air conditioning unit by inspecting controls, cleaning and changing filters, and listening for faulty sounds.
- Responds to guest and staff needs, e.g., kitchen, lounge, laundry equipment, repairs, guest complaints, TV problems, clogged toilets and drains:
- Performs various electrical and mechanical repairs
- Performs minor repairs on fans and air conditioners
- Performs various carpentry work
- Performs routine plumbing repairs
- Records engineering log entries during assigned shift.
- Assists in administration of applicable franchise maintenance programs.
- Assists in maintenance of departmental tools, work spaces, and equipment.
- Knows and observes safety precautions, fire safety procedures and emergency action plans, and use of fire control/alarm systems and extinguishers.
- Performs special projects as requested to enhance hotel condition and performance.
- Performs inspection and reporting of discrepancies.
- Complete all assign tasks on checklist and complete walkthrough with Manager to ensure all tasks were completed on said employee’s checklist before employee clocks out.
- On call even on days off for emergency purposes only that could result in property damage or loss of revenue. Employee will be compensated a minimum of 2 hours if called in for an emergency purpose.
- Performs other related and unrelated tasks as assigned by management.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Environmental Conditions
- Inside and outside: Partially protected from weather conditions but may require outside work up to 25% of shift, e.g., grounds maintenance, parking lot maintenance/repair.
- Essential Skills
- Requires familiarity with applicable franchise standards and procedures.
- Must possess knowledge, skill, and ability in carpentry, routine plumbing, minor electrical work, minor mechanical repairs, routine maintenance duties and safety precautions.
- Must possess ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
- Requires effective communications skills.
- Educational/Vocational Preparation
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to follow schedule and ability to perform physical labor.
- Technical training in mechanical and electrical fields, and experience (1 years) in maintenance of air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating systems and (2 years) experience in carpentry, plumbing.
- Requires ability to professionally represent the hotel and communicate effectively with hotel staff and guests.
