WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER
The Full-Time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Mobile Unit position at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board offers an exciting opportunity to improve care for individuals dealing with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. In this role, you will provide comprehensive medical evaluation and management, including education, supportive counseling, crisis assessments, diagnosis, and treatment referrals. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will prescribe evidence-based medications for opioid use disorders (MOUD) and provide ongoing monitoring and medication management. You will also play a key role in our newly proposed mobile medication unit designed to expand opioid treatment services. This innovative mobile unit will improve access to care for clients who are unable to visit our clinic or office-based program. In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will serve as the project coordinator for the mobile unit, providing medical oversight to all staff assigned to the unit. You will supervise a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring effective collaboration as you travel to various locations to deliver essential care to those in need.
ARE YOU THE PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER MOBILE UNIT WE'RE LOOKING FOR?
To excel as a Full-Time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, candidates must possess a Master's Degree and hold an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license with a Psychiatric Nurse/Mental Health Practitioner specialty. A minimum of one year of experience working with individuals facing mental illness and/or substance use disorders is essential, ensuring you have the clinical background necessary for effective patient care. Strong leadership and supervisory skills are critical, as you will supervise a multi-disciplinary team on a mobile unit, enhancing access to care. Proficiency in utilizing various healthcare software and tools for patient management is important for maintaining accurate records and facilitating communication. Additionally, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to foster trust and rapport with clients, while being empathetic and understanding the unique challenges faced by those with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
