YOUR DAY-TO-DAY AS A RESIDENTIAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR - IDD

As a full-time Residential Services Supervisor - IDD at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will play a pivotal role in delivering direct residential services for individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities. You will supervise and guide a dedicated team, including Residential Counselors, Residential Assistants, and volunteers, ensuring that the safety, social functioning, and emotional well-being of our clients are always prioritized. Your expertise will be essential in implementing house policies and procedures, creating a secure environment for both clients and staff. You will engage in continuous collaboration with clients, family members, and various service agencies, such as social workers and physicians, to assess client needs and develop comprehensive service plans. In moments of crisis, your leadership and quick decision-making will shine as you provide support and counsel while acting as a positive role model for clients in our care.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN A RESIDENTIAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR - IDD

To thrive as a Full-Time Residential Services Supervisor - IDD at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, candidates should hold a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, such as Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Special Education, along with a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with adults or children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Alternatively, candidates with seven (7) years of experience working with adults or children living with IDD will also be considered.

Prior supervisory experience is a plus, enabling effective team leadership, but is not mandatory. Essential skills include strong leadership and interpersonal abilities to effectively guide residential staff and maintain a collaborative environment. Candidates should hold valid CPR and First Aid certifications, a valid Virginia driver's license, and Medication Training certification, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients. Familiarity with the Medicaid Waiver Program and either DBHDS licensure or adult licensed care regulations is critical, as this knowledge underpins the supervisory role. The ability to assess client needs, develop service plans, and implement individualized strategies will significantly contribute to the overall success in fostering a nurturing and secure residential environment.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services such as Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Special Education. A minimum of two (2) years' experience in working with adults or children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
  • Or seven (7) years experience working with adults/children living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Supervisory experience is a plus.
