Day to day as a Therapist I - Mobile Clinic
Join the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board as a Full-Time Therapist I on our innovative mobile medication clinic. This key role is part of our effort to expand opioid treatment services by offering vital access to evidence-based medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for individuals struggling with opioid use disorders, especially those who cannot access our clinic or office-based program. As an SUD Counselor, you will be responsible for conducting psycho-social assessments, screenings, intake assessments, treatment planning, record-keeping, and substance use education, as well as leading individual and group counseling sessions. You will also provide brief counseling, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and assist with facilitating re-entry into community programs. In addition, you will carry a small caseload of individuals at the clinic or office-based locations. This role includes travel to various locations, with 24 hours a week spent on the mobile unit and an additional 16 hours per week at our clinic, ensuring comprehensive service access across the community.

To excel as a Full-Time Therapist I in our Mobile Medication Clinic at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you must possess a Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling and must be License eligible for LPC or LCSW,, along with a minimum of one year of clinical experience in substance use disorder and/or correctional settings. Successful candidates will also demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, effective crisis intervention techniques, and the ability to conduct thorough assessments and treatment planning.
Proficiency in record-keeping and familiarity with clinical software tools are vital for maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring seamless care.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- License eligible LPC or LCSW: Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling and a minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in a substance use disorder and/or correctional setting. Must be registered as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) with the Virginia Board of Counseling or register to receive CSAC Supervision within 60 days of employment. Must provide proof of registration for supervision toward licensure with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals (LPC or LCSW) within 90 days of employment.
