Substitute Teacher Assistant, Four Year Old Initiative Program
SUPERVISED BY: Teacher, Four Year Old Initiative Program
QUALIFICATIONS: A High School Diploma or GED with 2-3 years of experience in an early childhood setting. A CDA and/or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. Good writing and organizational skills. A valid Virginia Driver’s License and good driving record required. A criminal record check, physical and TB Tine test is required prior to employment.
DUTIES: Teaches a maximum of sixteen children.
- Meets and greets children upon arrival to and from school on a daily basis.
- Performs spot health checks on all children upon arrival to school on a daily basis.
- Assists the Teacher with maintaining an inventory on all classroom supplies and equipment. Makes requests for supplies and equipment as needed.
- Assists the Teacher with creating a confidential and comprehensive file on each child and maintaining accurate and detailed caseload documentation, including the use of Child Data Form, Ancedotal Notes, Family/Parent/Teacher/Staff/Agency Contact Forms, Home Visit Forms, Referral Forms, Follow-up Forms, Contact Summary Logs, Attendance Records and any other pertinent Medical/Developmental Data collected.
- Assists the Teacher with implementing and individualized service plan on each child in the areas of fine motor skills, gross motor skills, visual perception skills, self help skills, language skills and cognitive skills based upon individual developmental levels and developmental assessment results.
- Assists the Teacher with writing weekly lesson plans for the classroom.
- Assists the Teacher with maintaining an accurate class role on all children with name, address, phone number, birthdate, parent’s name, emergency contact information and other required data.
- Assists the Teacher in working with small groups of children in doing their daily activities.
- Assists the Teacher with the preparation and the organization of materials that are to be used in classroom activities.
- Reports directly to the assigned Teacher. In the absence of the Teacher, reports to the Four Year Old Initiative Program Coordinator.
- Assists with recruiting volunteers to work in the classroom.
- Actively involves parents in classroom activities on an ongoing basis.
- Attends job related training, workshops and in-services as required.
- Treats children, their parents and their families with dignity and respect; maintains a positive attitude.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding the family, parents and the child in every aspect whether it be records, written documentation, verbal statements or meetings.
