What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pipe Fitter position at Hampton Roads Connector Partners?
The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of Dragados, VINCI, and Flatiron has been selected to construct the $3.3bn Design Build project –the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2025.
Key Responsibilities
- Lay out, set up, and connect piping system for tunnels, roadways, and drainage systems
- Cut, thread, and groove pipes in correspondence with work drawings
- Construct dimensionally correct mock-up for off-site prefabrication, read blueprints, fabricate stands and jigs, and create targets.
- Construct piping systems within required tolerances.
- Fit pipe and properly prepare joints for welding to meet the specific requirements of the system on which work is being done.
- Prepare materials in shop for installation in the tunnel. As well as perform installation of piping system into the tunnel
- Fabricate and design pipe hangars.
- Move materials from shop to the designated work area inside the tunnel
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and engineers
- Knowledge of safety policies and procedures to comply with company, local, state, and/or federal laws
- Perform other duties as required
Work Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of pipe fitting experience necessary
- Previous experience with 1inch – 20inch diameter pipes
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction, repair, and maintenance of piping systems
- Must be able to interpret drawings and written instructions
- Determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operation, and the environment will affect outcomes
- Must be 18 years in age or older
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience working with hand tools, power tools and electronic test equipment
- Proven knowledge in determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to complete a job
