Heavy Equipment Operator
General Contractor in Newport News, VA is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator who is committed to performing and maintaining the quality work standards established by Hampton Roads Contracting, Inc.

Description and Responsibilities:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating motor vehicles and heavy equipment to the quality and safety standards established by Hampton Roads Contracting, Inc. Additionally, some manual and semi-skilled labor and other assignments may be required. Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Inspect equipment/machinery for safe day-to-day operation and for general maintenance needs.
- Clean, maintain, and secure all equipment as directed by management and company policies and procedures.
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, excavators, aerial equipment, and other heavy construction/maintenance equipment.
- Perform excavating and grading.
- Interact with construction general laborers and/or crew members who are facilitating alignment, movement, and adjustment of the equipment to complete the specifications for the construction project.
- Execute daily work instructions received from supervisor in a timely manner.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Class A CDL preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend construction plans.
- Substantial experience operating heavy equipment.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work long hours.
- Significant knowledge in the safe practices of operating heavy equipment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude and demeanor.
- Ability to set up and operate a site level.
