Description : Job Summary :
The Sleep Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the Sleep Physician and clinic operations by coordinating patient care, managing sleep studies, and ensuring smooth communication between patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. This position involves administrative, clinical, and educational responsibilities focused on helping patients with sleep-related disorders.
Key Responsibilities : Patient Care Coordination :
Serve as the primary point of contact for patients referred to the Sleep Physician.
Collect and review patient histories, including sleep patterns, symptoms, and relevant medical records.
Educate patients on sleep disorders, available treatments, and sleep study procedures.
Sleep Study Management :
Schedule and coordinate in-lab or home sleep studies as prescribed by the Sleep Physician.
Provide instructions to patients regarding home sleep study equipment or prepare them for in-lab studies.
Collaborate with sleep technicians to ensure accurate test scheduling, data collection, and timely reporting.
Treatment Support :
Assist patients with initiating treatment plans, such as CPAP or BiPAP therapy, under the Sleep Physician’s guidance.
Provide follow-up support to monitor patient adherence and troubleshoot equipment issues.
Educate patients on maintaining proper sleep hygiene and lifestyle changes to improve sleep.
Administrative Duties :
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
Handle referrals, prior authorizations, and insurance verification for sleep-related services and equipment.
Prepare patient charts, ensuring all necessary documentation is available for physician review.
Collaboration and Communication :
Act as a liaison between patients, sleep technicians, DME (durable medical equipment) providers, and the Sleep Physician.
Facilitate communication between the Sleep Physician and other medical providers to ensure coordinated care.
Stay informed about advancements in sleep medicine to provide up-to-date education and resources to patients.
Requirements :
Qualifications : Education and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field (preferred).
Experience in a clinical or healthcare administrative role (preferred).
Familiarity with sleep disorders, treatments, and equipment such as CPAP / BiPAP machines (preferred).
Skills and Abilities :
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients and healthcare providers.
Proficiency in using EMR systems and basic computer software.
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
