POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Seasonal Assistant Maintenance Technician
Department: Maintenance, Operations
Reports to: Senior Maintenance Technician
Supervises: N/A
SUMMARY: Mow and trim grass, clean facilities, maintain equipment and pick up trash at various parks, athletic fields and other facilities around the county. This work would be done from approximately late March to early November. Hours may vary per week depending on the time of the year and the weather. WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this position, the employee works mostly outdoors in all weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to loud noises from operating equipment. The employee may occasionally work in high, precarious places, steep slopes and on ladders. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and cold as well as other types of inclement weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment under appropriate circumstances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform regular ground and landscape maintenance by mowing and trimming lawns and other growth around county properties.
- Perform routine maintenance and up-keep on county equipment and tools.
- Complete administrative duties, such as filling out forms and reporting maintenance conditions to supervisor.
- May assist other departments as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, GENERAL ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:
- Familiarity with all types of lawn maintenance equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules and applicable codes, operating and maintenance instructions, and other manuals and documents.
- Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with others and follow instructions from supervisors.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate person(s).
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions including seasonally hot or cold temperatures and in climate weather.
- Ability to lift, carry, or shovel objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to perform physical labor requires continual and repetitive use of large motor skills to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, crouch, shovel, push, pull, twist, turn, stretch, reach, and continual and repetitive use of fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
- Ability to maintain balance, work safely on steep slopes, and work from ladders of various heights.
- Ability to work around equipment that generates noise, vibration, and heat.
EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated experience in a similar maintenance role.
- Experience in driving & operating a variety of equipment, including snow blowers, lawn mowers, motor vehicles, & power tools etc.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED.
LICENSE:
- Valid Driver's License.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must pass drug tests.
