- The Surgery Support Assistant will assist with room turnover.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- Maintain Case Cart: Unpack supplies, check schedule to make sure case sent is correct, check preference list and make sure it matches case cart sent, make sure all supplies in bag are matched by preference list sheet, pull all available supplies needed for cases, order other supplies not sent with case, check supplies against the receipt.
- Room Turnover: Help move patient from surgery table to cart, empty trash, empty needle boxes, wipe off all tables, bed, equipment, empty canisters and replace with new canister, position bed for next surgery case, mop floor, wipe extra blood from walls, ceilings, and equipment, remove unneeded equipment and supplies.
- Pull Add-on Cases: check with schedule periodically to see changes, find preference cards for doctors, pull suture, medicine, and supplies, communicate with nurses that cases have been pulled, communicate with schedule that case has been pulled, get special order supplies with cases if needed, get supplies, suture, medicine from hospital if needed.
- Track Schedule Changes: Periodically check schedule for changes, perform changes to schedule when scheduler instructs to do so, communicate with others about schedule changes, pull case add-ons, switch suture, medicine, and preference cards to their new rooms.
- Loading and Unloading Linen in Washers and Dryers: Check return bin for supplies, put supplies away in or supply area if needed, take other supplies downstairs to put away, send special order supplies back to company through either supply coordinator or receiving coordinator, send overstocked supplies back to Owens and Minor through Receiving Coordinator.
- Fill Water Supply Area: Check water supply room, count water solutions to see how much needed, take cart to downstairs water supply area, fill cart with solutions needed, take water cart back upstairs, fill water supply area, return cart to original location.
- Room Set-Up: Set updated schedule from schedule and preference cards, make sure all supplies, suture, and medicine is pulled and correct, put all cases away, fill anesthesia carts, get cart for room from PACU, write on board any information nurses need to know, put all canceled cases away supplies, suture, medicine, and equipment, put returned supplies from case away.
- Errand Running: Listen and be aware if nurses need an errand run, go to break center for specimen, take specimens to lab, get extra supplies need from hospital, get other instruments needed from hospital, get other beds for heavier patients from hospital, help take or bring patients to and/or from hospital.
- Individuals may not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- Ability to pull cases, know all sterile techniques and know how to train new employees.
