Job Description

Reports to: Finished Products Manager

Direct Reports: Moulder Employees

Hours: Monday-Friday (6:00 AM-4:30 PM) up to 48 hours, occasional weekends, or as needed

Position Summary: Responsible for overseeing all day-to-day activities in the Moulder

Job Responsibilities:

Safety

· Complete all tasks in a safe manner. Follow all company and OSHA procedures regarding work practices, LOTO, PPE, etc.

· Train and coach employees to work safely at each of their workstations.

· Ensure employees follow all company and OSHA procedures regarding work practices, LOTO, PPE, etc.

· Conduct all operational Safety Training by machine station and File lock-out/tag-out and MSDS reports and file any sign off sheets with office administrator.

· Complete Monthly Safety Trainings with crew, Monthly Focus Groups and safety observations and file in applicable system.

· Follow up on any action items to completion.

· Wear all the required personal protective equipment – be a safety role model.

· Know and understand Hancock Lumber’s Safety and Mission Statements.

· Encourage use of and review all safety near misses and observations with employees.

Supervision/Employee Development

· Make employee safety, product quality, operational efficiency, and overall engagement a top priority.

· Manage operational mill personnel – place employees where they are needed, adjust rotations to reflect active employees - Focus on cross training employees on all machine centers – insuring suitable candidates for back up during vacations and absences.

· Work closely with Planer Supervisor to distribute workforce needs when short staffed.

· Assist in onboarding, setting training schedules and development of all finished products production employees.

· Lead daily morning huddle with employees – lead stretches, review rotation, training needs, any safety items, and any operational items for the day.

· Complete employee Aspirations on schedule.

· Involved in the hiring and termination decisions. Consult with Human Resources.

General Production/Operations/Quality

· Have working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, lumber grading, yield, and quality standards.

· Interact with dry kiln operations to ensure quality of product (document and report on wet and dry piles).

· Work closely with the planner/scheduler on what we need for orders, operationally what is the most efficient, and what input products will be used for each run (VA and planer)

· Review and disseminate milling lists for every run.

· Understand mechanical and electronic equipment and what changes may need to be made to address product flow issues.

· Responsible for ensuring that Quality Assurance is achieved for all products – work closely with QC Supervisor, VA Team, and Planer Supervisor to address any issues.

· Actively participate in production meetings with the manufacturing team.

· Summarize Daily Production reports and distribute them to necessary recipients.

· Install new machinery – when required.

· Assist with clean up – when required.

· Assist with quarterly dressed inventory audits/cycle counts – when required.

· Help Maintain and repair machinery, as necessary.

· Must be able to fill in at any position on any piece of machinery.

· Other duties may be assigned.

DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

· Minimum: High School Diploma or GED

· Preferred: Demonstrated ability to operate a Moulder.

· Experience supervising people.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Broad-based knowledge of the lumber industry.

· Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

· Ability to delegate tasks and utilize your more experienced employees to complete everything that is required.

REPETITIVE PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Sawmill Category)

1. Lift 60# from floor to waist; lift 40# from waist to shoulder.

2. Carry 60# over a distance exceeding 12 feet.

3. Push 100# in a wheeled cart.

4. Stand on a cement floor for extended periods of time.

5. Bend, stoop, or squat to floor level repeatedly.

6. Reach overhead to grasp materials.

7. Ability to walk up and down stairs to access machinery.

ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually high. Employees are required to wear hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
