Description:

The Direct Service Professional (DSP) helps create a safe and fun space for children of all abilities to learn and play. You will care for children, help the teacher with activities, and make sure everyone is safe. You’ll also talk to parents about how their kids are doing and help children grow in different ways: mentally, emotionally, socially, and physically.

MAIN DUTIES:

Keep the children safe:

  • Always watch the children to make sure they’re okay.
  • Help with things like handwashing, changing diapers, and feeding kids with special needs.
  • Report any problems right away.

Help the teacher plan and lead activities:

  • You will help set up and run activities that are fun and teach the kids.
  • You’ll also keep the space clean and organized.
  • You’ll work with the teacher to make sure everyone feels safe and happy.
  • You will be actively involved and playing with children.

Talk to parents:

  • You will speak with parents about how their child is doing.
  • You’ll help answer their questions and share important information.

Complete paperwork:

  • You will fill out reports about the children and their progress.
  • You’ll also make sure everything is ready for your shift, like clocking in and out.

Training:

  • You’ll need to complete required trainings as assigned.

Other

  • Help keep the classroom clean and organized.
  • Learn about all the programs Hand in Hand offers to help tell other people about them.
  • Communicate with your coworkers and supervisors to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • You need to be at least 16 years old for part-time work and 18 years old for full-time work.
  • You should know first aid and CPR (training provided).
  • You should have a high school diploma or GED (or be working on it).
  • You should like working with kids and be patient and understanding with them.

Other Skills:

  • Being kind and understanding: You need to be good at listening to kids and helping them feel safe and comfortable.
  • Cultural Respect: Showing respect for everyone, no matter their background.
  • Patience: Being patient and understanding with kids.
  • Teamwork: You should enjoy working with others, including teachers, parents, and other helpers.
  • Flexibility: You need to be able to adjust and change plans when needed to help kids in different ways.
  • Basic technology usage: You need to be able to use basic devices like tablets and laptops. You need to be able to use basic technology like email and word processing.

Physical Demands:

  • You will need to be able to lift and move kids when necessary, up to 60 pounds.
  • You might need to stand or move around a lot during the day.

Work Environment:

  • The classroom can be a little noisy, and you will be working with cleaning products, but it will be a safe place for everyone.
