Job description
Hands-On Technology Education, LLC (HOTE) seeks to provide safe, engaging, and balanced STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) activities for 6th - 12th graders through our signature After-School Program (ASP).
The successful After School Program Instructor will help augment our After-School Enrichment by engaging students in Homework, Project, & recreational support for their general education activities (English/history/math/science). They will also provide assistance to lead STEAM Program Facilitators, guide students and on their STEAM-based enrichment activities for the academic school year at one of our program sites.
Program Locations: Oakland, CA
Program Dates: Rolling (Academic Year)
Program Working Hours:
- Ideal Shifts between 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM on weekdays, Monday through Friday
- Staff Instructors must commit to working at least 3 days of the week between Monday and Friday.
Total Working Hours (Per Week):
- Anticipating 15- 20 hours per week depending on availability of instructor (i.e. days of the week worked)
Program Mission: The primary focus of the ASP, after school program, is to provide exposure to STEAM and Technology Education Fundamentals in a fun, engaging, and empathetic way for participating students. After School Program Facilitators will provide guidance to students on non-STEAM days ensuring that students make progress in their General Education (English/Social-Science, Math/etc.). Assist STEAM activities, provided by HOTE, so that students are ready for their enrichment activities on STEAM Educational days.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist instruction of daily after-school program (ASP) via support of Lead Teacher , Students and/or Admin. This primarily includes assisting in implementation of new or existing Hands-On Technology curriculum.
- Provide recreational support for non STEAM enrichment days
- Provide assistance and support for students in working on After-School Enrichment projects.
- Attend mandatory employee-training programs and other trainings/meetings as scheduled.
- Facilitate and/or assist Activity Stations (in sports, art, music, and/or STEAM) in order to improve student engagement and retention in the program.
- Group supervision and discipline, as necessary, to keep students engaged, whilst providing a safe environment.
- Maintain a good attendance record.
- Time Management, where they are Able to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
Training:
Instructors will receive training in Computer Science & Electrical Engineering concepts and activities targeting K-12 students. Satisfactory completion of training is required for all after school program instructors. Training is compensated.
Qualifications and Skills
- One of the following:
- New/Current collegiate students with completed coursework in Education, Psychology or a Science-related field,
- Tutors, Teachers and/or Instructional Aides with high passion/interest in helping kids achieve their goals in a after-school enrichment program setting
- Passion for learning new things and helping students explore new subject areas
- [Preferred] Previous experience teaching, tutoring and/or participating in at the elementary, middle, or high-school levels.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff, students, and administration.
- Early Childhood Education Credits a plus.
- Background check & references clearance required.
- [Plus] CPR & first aid certification
