Job Responsibilities/Duties
Hanford Tank Waste Operations and Closure (H2C) is looking for a Designer Specialist to join the Design Services Support organization.
The Designer Specialist will collaborate with Design Engineers in planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of design work. Responsibilities include assisting with man-hour estimates and schedules, ensuring that designs are developed with quality, compliance with requirements and procedures, and are completed on schedule and within budgeted hours. The role also involves coordinating with personnel from other departments, project managers, and client personnel to review designs and address any areas of concern. Additionally, the Designer Specialist will perform field walkdowns and inspections, take measurements, and prepare field sketches and notes. The Designer Specialist will possess the ability to address problems and resolve immediate issues effectively.
The position necessitates the capability to assess a situation, decide on the optimal course of action, identify necessary resources, provide direction, and ensure follow-through in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. Additionally, innovative problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement must be executed promptly due to time constraints and scheduling demands that prevail at tank farm facilities.
This position will be responsible for creating and managing detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) melters.
Other duties include:
- Preparing routine to moderately complex designs for Structures, Systems, and Components (SSC).
- Assisting in the development of drafting standards in accordance with site criteria.
- Planning and coordinating detailed CAD work.
- Assisting in generating and reviewing design change forms.
- Resolving existing design discrepancies with the most cost-effective approach to meet design criteria.
- Preparing fabrication and construction specifications and details.
- Preparing plant layouts and study drawings using CAD tools, from which construction drawings are completed.
- Ensuring that designs are consistent with project technical requirements and scope.
- Participating in the evaluation and resolution of technical issues.
- Performing investigations and preparing technical reports with recommended actions.
- Conducting field walkdowns to assess as-found conditions and resolve design questions and installation issues.
Required Qualifications
Grade 19:
AA/AAS degree in related field and 12 years of related experience as a Designer, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience; 2 years of related experience must be in the Nuclear industry.
Grade 20:
AA/AAS degree in related field and 14 years of related experience as a Designer, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience; 2 years of related experience must be in Nuclear industry.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Desired Qualifications
* Working knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD.
- Experience with SolidWorks PDM.
- Experience as a PDM system administrator.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- Electrical and/or mechanical/piping and/or civil/structural design drafting experience relating to facility modifications and support preferred, mechanical experience is highly preferred.
- Experience in electrical equipment, electrical diagrams and schedules, mechanical equipment, piping, pipe supports, structural, civil, plot plans, plans, sections and details is preferred.
- Experience incorporating change notices and updating drawings is preferred.
- Familiarity with construction practices and issues related to an operating nuclear facility is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
Hiring Range Minimum: $117,225
Hiring Range Maximum: $162,688
