Job Responsibilities/Duties
Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C), the prime contractor for Integrated Tank Disposition Contract (ITDC), delivers exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste. H2C leads the nation's largest and most complex radioactive waste cleanup, including closure of the legacy waste tanks at Hanford containing 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste. H2C seeks a Scientist who will support the Waste Technical Services organization. This position will be responsible to incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
The specific duties and responsibilities of the Scientist include but are not limited to:
- Assist in study, development, testing and analyses of designs, processes or procedures relating to a limited phase of a group's function.
- Organize and accept responsibility for the accuracy of limited technical analyses, and evaluation of results using standard techniques and procedures. Assist with scientific, engineering and design calculations and in the generation of specifications and scientific data.
- Demonstrates beginning problem solving and exercise of judgment as required on lower-level work details and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of scientific alternatives.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and correspondence.
- Assist in the preparation of technical manuals, reports and procedures.
- May advance technology within assigned area through the preparation and presentation of technical papers, articles, talks and patent disclosures
- Verify and comply with scientific documentation standards and test procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Grade 14:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry or other scientific discipline
Grade 15:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry or other scientific discipline; and
One (1) year of related experience
Desired Qualifications
-1 to 5 years of experience in the nuclear chemistry field.
- Understanding of transportation requirements for nuclear material.
- Perform dose to curie calculations.
- Perform radionuclide characterization of waste.
- Familiar with the following computer programs; RADCALC, Micro-shield.
Compensation & Benefits
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
Hiring Range Minimum: $72,925
Hiring Range Maximum: $101,175
