Job Title: Manufacturing Manager

Department: Manufacturing

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt


Job Summary:

The manufacturing operations manager will plan and direct production activities to achieve effective operations and cost factors. A high floor presence is required along with collaboration with quality, maintenance, manufacturing engineers, supervisors, line leaders, and production employees. Experience with lead-acid battery production is required.


Responsibilities, Duties & Essential Functions:
(Duties include but are not limited to the following)

  • Plan, organize and revise daily production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failures or other production constraints to achieve production targets.
  • Set production, quality and delivery objectives and strategize to achieve them.
  • Ensure compliance with plant safety standards, policies, and procedures to maintain a safety-first culture.
  • Create and maintain systems to manage factory costs through proper labor utilization, monitor scrap/waste and continuous improvement to gain efficiencies
  • Continuously monitor costs for possible reduction and process improvement to increase efficiency.
  • Develop and mentor supervisors and line leaders while maintaining work standards, schedules, and positive employee relations.
  • Assist with the hiring and training of line employees.
  • Create reports for managing using key process indicators
  • Development of processes and procedures to improve manufacturing operations.
  • Manage key projects, as assigned
  • Develop and manage operational initiatives to realize operational and strategic plan
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and differing rotations/shifts
  • Works closely with managers of other department for Safety, Quality and Human Resources
  • Coach and mentor subordinates in all aspects of their duties
  • Recruit, train and develop personnel to provide quality work with a safety conscious attitude
  • Analyze cost data to ensure efficient plant operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager

  • Ability to respond quickly and provide solutions in the event of an emergency problem
  • Strong interpersonal skills and decision making abilities, required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to present clear and concise information to varying levels within the organization, required
  • Microsoft Excel intermediate or above, preferred
  • Experience in lean Manufacturing, preferred
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, OSHA, IATF 16949 standards to ensure product quality, industrial safety, and product reliability.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Critical Thinking and Troubleshooting ability and experience
  • Ethical Behavior-Must maintain the highest ethical standards in the conduct of company affairs; must conduct nosiness with integrity and comply with all applicable laws in a manner that excludes considerations or personal advantage or gain


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field, required
  • Five years’ of experience in lead-acid battery manufacturing operations management preferred.
  • Minimum five years’ verifiable leadership and management experience in a manufacturing environment, required
  • Experience in field projects and manufacturing engineers, production technology, and process improvement.

  • Demonstrated ability and success in dealing with labor relations, performance management, quality management, environmental issues and personal safety

Physical Demands:

  • Physical demands may include but not limited to the following
  • Must be able to frequently move about the manufacturing plant campus, general office, environments, production areas, and occasionally ascend/descend stairs
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • This position works in a manufacturing setting. This role routinely uses standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters, and tape dispensers
  • While performers the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear
  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, couch, or crawl
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • This position may work with hazardous materials where personal protective equipment (PPE) is necessary and specific procedures must be followed to adhere to safety regulations
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to access and navigate the production facility several times per shift
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE while in production area
  • Must be able to pass a Pulmonary Functions Test (PFT) for respirator wear
