Job Summary:
The Electrical Lead Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the Installation, startups and commissioning activities for electrical systems and equipment during the project lifecycle by third parties. This role will require a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strong project management to ensure electrical systems are successfully tested, validated, and integrated into the operational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation Inspections
- Carry out installation inspections of Hanley provided equipment to ensure all complies to international and local standards plus Client Specifications.
- Performance of Warranty work and startup services
- Investigate warranty claims on equipment provided.
- Carry out startup sequences of Hanley provided equipment.
- Lead Commissioning Activities:
- Oversee and manage electrical commissioning activities for large-scale projects, ensuring they meet technical specifications and safety standards.
- Lead electrical commissioning teams and collaborate with other engineering disciplines to support smooth integration of systems.
- Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules for electrical systems.
- Conduct and supervise electrical testing of systems and equipment, including transformers, switchgear, distribution boards and.
- System Testing and Troubleshooting:
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, and installation documents to ensure all systems are correctly installed and operational.
- Troubleshoot issues with electrical systems, equipment, or circuits and develop solutions in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all commissioning tests, including insulation resistance, continuity, protection system testing, and functional tests, are properly carried out.
- Service and Maintenance Services
- Support Service Level Agreements for all current contracts.
- Testing, calibration, checking, correcting, adjusting, and part replacement services on Hanley provided products.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with local, national, and international standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, IEC, NETA).
- Ensure safety protocols are followed and that all risks are identified and mitigated during the commissioning phase.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare detailed commissioning reports and system documentation to capture all activities and findings.
- Provide regular progress updates to the project management team, highlighting any potential issues or delays.
- Coordinate the submission of final as-built documentation and commissioning certificates.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders:
- Coordinate with other engineering teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth execution of electrical commissioning tasks.
- Liaise with the operations and maintenance teams to ensure proper handover of systems post-commissioning.
- Monitoring and reporting of Third-party performance
- Reviewing and assessing of third-party performance to ensure all works carried out are in line with Regulations, Specifications and Company expectations.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP)) is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in electrical commissioning, with a strong understanding of electrical systems design, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects (e.g., Data Centers, power plants, oil & gas, renewable energy).
- Familiarity with commissioning software and tools.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of electrical system components, including control systems, transformers, generators, switchgear, PDU’s, RPP’s, power monitoring systems and protective relays.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage teams and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEC, etc.).
- Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong understanding of commissioning procedures and testing techniques.
- Work Environment: This role typically involves field-based work on project sites, with some office-based planning and reporting responsibilities. Projects may require working in a variety of environments, including industrial, construction, and potentially hazardous sites.
