Job Description

Summary/Objective
The position of Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing and coordinating the therapeutic needs of clients on their assigned caseload. The Mental Health Therapist will work with individuals who have recently begun experiencing symptoms of psychosis as part of a Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) team. The Mental Health Therapist will be thoroughly trained in screening/assessing and treating psychosis. This position is community/office based.

  • Provides comprehensive clinical assessment of assigned participants.
  • Develops with the participants and families/caregivers a recovery-oriented service plan that supports the personal goals of the participant and their families/caregivers.
  • Provides direct services to clients and families, including individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and case management services to mild, moderate, and severe level of care clients.
  • Provides family support to participants' parents on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis, as needed by the participant and their family.
  • Supports and advocates for clients and client’s family needs by attending clients schools 504 and IEP meetings.
  • Ensures and coordinates the provision of psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring service as indicated by the client's psychiatrist or other medical provider.
  • Provides treatment in a variety of settings including schools, homes, group homes, foster homes and in-office, in consideration of client needs and safety concerns.
  • Maintain timely weekly progress notes, quarterly and closing summaries up to insurance standards. Submit required clinical documentation within 72 hours of service provided.
  • Provides discharge planning and coordinates and secures aftercare resources throughout treatment and immediately prior to discharge.
  • Maintains a caseload of 15-20 clients and meets expectations of 66% direct service hours monthly.
  • Rotates in co-leading Multi-family Groups in the evenings 5:30-7:30pm on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Provides crisis intervention services within the assigned program scope of services and through the agency-wide on-call system.
  • Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings
  • Attends and participates in weekly individual and/or group supervision
  • Attends weekly clinical consultation meetings
  • Collaborates and coordinates treatment on a weekly basis with support staff including but not limited to psychotropic medication provider, employment and educational specialist, and family specialist, and peer support specialist
  • Attends and participates in all assigned training for professional, program, and agency development.
  • Maintains registration or licensure, meets all requirements for Continuing Education per the BBS or BOP.
  • Abides by the ethical standards promoted by the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology as applicable, as well as professional associations related to the therapist’s clinical discipline.
  • Remains informed of Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) and/or Board of Psychology (BOP) laws and regulations.
  • Effectively manages initial evaluation, screening, and recommending appropriate disposition.
  • Effectively develops and updates client treatment plans for each client caseload based on timely supervisory reviews and via consistent sessions with clients.
  • Comply with all federal regulations, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), for the privacy and security of client information.
  • Maintain quality assurance standards, adherence to MediCal/MediCare documentation requirements and data collection for measured outcomes.
  • Additional duties as needed.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and registration as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with the Board of Behavioral Sciences, Master's degree in social work and registration as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with the Board of Behavioral Sciences, Master's degree in Counseling and registration as an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with the Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Open to working some afternoons/evenings
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Drivers License
  • Knowledge in working with a variety of ages and 2 year directly related clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and their families preferred.
  • Knowledge of community resources, case management process, community outreach and program planning preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Medi-Cal/insurance and related regulations, including documentation requirements preferred.

  • Skilled in conducting comprehensive mental health assessments, formulating accurate diagnoses, and developing individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and families.
  • Proficient in delivering individual, group, and family therapy utilizing evidence-based practices to treat psychosis and other mental health conditions across mild to severe levels of care.
  • Strong ability to work as part of a Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) team, collaborating with psychiatrists, case managers, family specialists, peer support, and educational/employment specialists.
  • Skilled in navigating community resources, advocating for client needs, and coordinating care plans, including attending IEP/504 school meetings and managing psychiatric and aftercare services.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in providing therapeutic services across multiple settings including homes, schools, offices, and community locations, tailored to individual client needs.


Ability To:

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing to interview people, disseminate and record information.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions and apply them in a variety of situations.
  • Use correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.


Comments:

  • Must clear background check for a Community Care Licensed facility, including physical, TB, and drug test.
  • Sit for extended periods of time and the ability to manage repetitive hand/wrist movements while using a computer keyboard and/or the phone. Bend, squat, stoop, and walk- up a flight of stairs.
  • Lift and/or carry up to 20 lbs., occasionally. Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal.


Work Environment

Typical office and clinical environment. Responsibilities may include offsite meetings, trainings, or other activities as required by business needs.
