What are the responsibilities and job description for the Powertrain Cooling Applications Engineer position at Hanon Systems?
The selected candidate will be responsible for developing powertrain cooling (PTC) heat exchangers and modules
meeting all customer specifications and program milestones and deliverables.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the Design, Development, and Release of heat exchangers
- Ensure designs conform to customer specifications, including application of Hanon standards
- Interface with the customer
- Apply APQP to the application (i.e. DFMEA, SCIF, DFM/A, DVP&R, Dim/Tol analysis, proto Control Plan)
- Select materials aligned with Materials Engineering, Purchasing and manufacturing strategies
- Develop and maintain prototype and production Bill of Materials
- Lead and organize prototype materials and process planning, including tooling cost and timing
- Direct prototype dimensional and quality controls
- Manage test material, component, and end item logistics and storage
- Provide direction to CAD, CAE, and lab testing personnel
- Lead and organize validation testing per the DV plan
- Assess test results and apply design and/or prototype quality countermeasures as necessary
- Report application design changes and lessons learned to Hanon Core Engineering
- Release and sign-off of drawings, ensuring drawings align with corporate design standards
- Execute and document all product design deliverables in Hanon’s Product Development System
- Interface frequently with global PD, Manufacturing, and Program Management activities
- Support production launches and cost-reduction initiatives
Years of Experience:
- 1-5 years preferred
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; Mechanical Engineering preferred
Desired Competencies, Experience, & Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to design, develop, test, and launch Heat Exchangers and related components
- Understanding of heat transfer and structural principles
- Application of Matlab to heat transfer and thermodynamics
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Advanced Excel / VBA macros proficiency
- Experience in the design of injection molded plastic and formed aluminum components
- Experience in quality planning disciplines such as DFMEA, SCIF, DFM/A, other
- Experience applying APIS IQ FMEA software
- Able to interpret and apply CFD and CAE results to optimize component design
- Application of Matlab to data processing/database searches
- Problem solving skills
- Experienced in project planning and management
- Ability to conduct Technical Design Reviews according to industry disciplines
- Work closely with the lab on the test set-up, execution, and report-outs
Special Requirements:
- Travel required to suppliers, customers, and corporate manufacturing plants; international as required.
- Overtime may be required during some time periods.
