Swine Production Supervisor

North Central Iowa

This position is a full-time job and requires working daily with Contract Growers, ICs, and Farm Associates to ensure the proper care of our animals and that sites are properly maintained and managed.

Will spend 80%-90% or about 30 to 35 hours per week making regular farm visits with 5 to 8 hours per week allocated to time spent in your office. Detailed electronic visits reports will be filled out on each site visit to record and provide feedback to our Caretakers and Building Owners.

A typical workday will be from 7:30 to 4:30 including your office time but you may have hours outside of these depending on the situation. We want to also allow flexibility in your schedule for your family or other personal reasons with approval from your supervisor.

Working daily with Caretakers and Building Owners to ensure that both the animals and the facilities are being taken care of to our standards. This will include when needed doing daily chores and or loading with the caretakers to provide training and to help set standards for our expectations. At least monthly, more often if needed meet with all of your caretakers face to face to discuss results and opportunities for improvement. It will also include reporting and following up to ensure that all maintenance is being performed in a timely manner and that emergency backup systems are operational and functioning properly.

Training employees, ICs, and Contract Growers on Hanor’s Production Practices for both the care of our animals and how we want our sites managed and maintained.

Biosecurity Procedures – Train, monitor and ensure strict compliance with all parties involved with the care of our animals and facilities.

Feed Management – Monitor feed ordering to minimize feed interruptions on the site. Work with caretakers to ensure proper feeder adjustment, withholding of feed from animals at the end of the turn and to minimize feed left in the bins at the end of the turn.

Herd Health - Work with Caretakers and Veterinarians to monitor the heard health of the sites in your area of responsibility and to respond to any health concerns as they arise.

Marketing - Implementation of our marketing program which would include timing and selection of animals at the proper weight and timing to optimize revenues for each group of animals.

Process Verification Programs – Implement and oversee execution of all programs as required as part of our Hog Procurement Agreement.

Animals Well-being – Train and monitor with all our caretakers that our Animal Well-being Procedures are followed and implemented. This would include euthanizing animals when necessary.

Inventory Management – Would include counting and grading all incoming pigs upon arrival along with monitoring that daily mortality and sales are being reported both timely and accurately with the end goal to minimize inventory variances at the time of the group close.

Ordering both veterinary and maintenance supplies and parts for the farms that you’re responsible for.

Understand both financial and physical performance indicators for your area of responsibility and be able to communicate these Key Production Indicators to your Caretakers to ensure that targets are understood and achieved.

OFFICE DUTIES

-Ordering supplies and vaccines (all orders should be tracked and accounted for).

-Projecting and scheduling both market and cull loads

-Communicating with Caretakers on logistics, animal care and feed management. At least some of this communication will be in Spanish either through a program or translator.

-Planning and scheduling time for the upcoming week to ensure that all tasks and priorities are completed

-Making any necessary phone calls

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of successful grow-finish experience.

Employees working under TN Visa, animal breeder, are eligible to apply.

EDUCATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE

A college degree is preferred, but not required. Computer literate, Windows 2000, Excel

Must be able to read and write.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

English is required, some Spanish skills would be a plus but not required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Elementary math needed.

-Identify and Prioritize work to be within the department

-Must be able to follow instructions.
