Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
To help students master subject matter through innovative means to contribute to their academic development. Responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating instruction based upon specific goals and objectives established by Hanover County Public Schools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

- Develop individual learning opportunities that meet the needs of students attending summer school
- Plan engaging, innovative lessons in the core subject areas as well as opportunities for exploration, social-emotional learning, electives, health, and physical education, and other relevant activities
- Observe and evaluate student's performance and provide feedback
- Maintain proper discipline procedures and expectations
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff
- Collaborate with colleagues to create and cultivate a safe and positive school culture and climate for students
- Attend virtual and in person school meetings (planning and / or staff meetings)
- Monitor and participate in innovative student learning opportunities such as field trips
- Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with school division policies and practices.
Qualifications : KSA's, Education
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Comprehensive knowledge of current practices, techniques, and methods of teaching; the principles of educational testing and principles and methods of remedial education; the needs and requirements of working with students with disabilities. Ability to : apply modern methods and principles of education to pupils functioning at the secondary school level; maintain an interest in the positive improvement and development of children, adolescents, or adults of normal and / or impaired learning ability; maintain proper discipline; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Required : Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Preferred : Master's Degree from an accredited institution. Must hold or be eligible for Va. Teacher License w / endorsement in the applicable subject area.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS :
Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, students, and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to use and operate effectively various items of office-related equipment, such as but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Work is typically performed in a school setting including; a classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be required. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular instruction for special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with students to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required.Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required.
