Description
Responsible for providing direct service to preschool students with disabilities. Responsible for assisting with and implementing special education instructional programs, specifically dealing with students with all exceptionalities.

- Plans daily instructional activities for all students to enable students to achieve IEP goals and progress in general curriculum;
- Assesses students' learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group / individual needs;
- Develops summative tests of students' learning and uses results for further student instruction, grading, and placement;
- Maintains order within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding pupil behavior management;
- Uses the student's individualized educational plans (IEPs) to plan daily instructional activities;
- Selects and utilizes materials appropriate to the students' instructional levels;
- Organizes learning activities to achieve specific concepts;
- Maintains a favorable psychological environment for learning;
- Participates in district level professional development programs;
- Establishes friendly and cooperative relationships between the home and the school;
- Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence;
- Respects the home responsibility of parents for their children;
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations;
- Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team whose purpose is to provide appropriate educational programs for preschool students with identified disabilities;
- Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placements of students for the division's special education programs;
- Drafts and facilitates the development of IEP's for assigned students following district, state and federal requirements;
- Maintains documentation for students' annual IEP goals;
- Maintains ongoing records of student performance in order to evaluate students annual IEP;
- Conducts an annual review of each student's IEP and provides for progress reports at least each nine weeks;
- Holds periodic parent conferences and / or home visits;
- Keeps abreast of recent developments in education for special education students and shows evidence of continuing professional growth;
- Satisfactorily completes all paperwork related to special education procedures;
- Perform related work as required.

Special Requirements
Must hold or be eligible for Va. Teacher License w / endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Experience working in a classroom setting with special education preschool students preferred.
Education and Experience :
Required : Bachelors Degree in appropriate related field. Must have a record of successful full-time teaching experience or have demonstrated a successful student teaching placement / internship.
Preferred : Masters Degree. Experience working in a classroom setting with preschool students with identified disabilities that includes having implemented a variety of teaching strategies as well as data collection and its utilization. Experienced in moderating IEP meetings.
Terms of Employment
Work Schedule : 10M - 217 Days - 7.25 Hrs.

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted, and other physical activities are required. Movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals, regular stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching and significant pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions are also required. Required to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Attendance to meetings outside the normal duty hours is often required.
