GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides administrative direction and oversight for all high school sports and activities programs. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all state, federal, and divisional athletics regulations, administering departmental funds and accounts in a fiscally responsible manner and sustaining a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism and respect at all levels.ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)Create an atmosphere of exemplary sportsmanship and respect;Represent the school at athletic meetings (VHSL, District, Conference, Regional, State and athletic conferences and workshops);Review the Master Eligibility List (MEL's) of all interscholastic programs to compliance with VHSL eligibility;Responsible for compliance with all rules and regulations of the school, VHSL, District, Conference and Region;Coordinate monthly and yearly athletic and school activities to the school calendar;Responsible for maintenance of the buildings and grounds in athletic areas;Provide adequate facilities for visiting teams and officials;Develop effective relations and be a constructive liaison with outside groups, such as Booster Associations;Manage school’s electronic message board and marquee;Prepare and update athletic handbook;Supervise ticket sales, part-time workers, officials, security personnel, and financial expenses for all home activities;Complete necessary paperwork for stipends for coaches, sponsor(s) and support personnel;Responsible for safety provisions in all sport for both participants and spectators and provide a periodic check of all facilities for safety and suitability;Recommend and manage athletic budget;Responsible for the proper handling of all athletic funds, to include annual budgets, audits and proper bookkeeping;Coordinate use of facilities / completes facilities reports;Schedule and monitor school pep rallies;Coordinate practice facilities and establish reasonable limits for practice time;Make necessary arrangements for transporting participants to scheduled athletic events;Maintain a systematic inventory and accounting of equipment for all sports;Assist in recruiting and staff athletic personnel;Assist the principal with the periodic evaluation of the school's athletic program, facilities and individual coach's performance;Work with custodial staff to provide for the appropriate coverage for all events scheduled in the school;Communicate with local official organizations for school athletic events; (i.e. law enforcement agencies)Coordinate and supervise fund-raising activities for athletic teams, as well as activity/extra-curricular activities;Establish a positive means of communicating to parents in the event of game/practice; cancellations, rescheduled dates, etc.;Monitor distribution of keys to athletic areas;Coordinate athletic award programs / activities with coaches;Performs related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of high school athletic programs and principles of scholastic athletic management; Exceptional verbal, written, and technical communication skills. Excellent knowledge of the processes related to effective teaching and learning. Strong supervisory and decision-making skills. Must possess the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working with athletes, coaches, school personnel and the community; Ability to manage crises situations effectively. Familiarity and proficiency using and managing Microsoft office products (i.e., internet explorer, outlook, word, etc.)EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: Bachelor’s degree. Valid Va. Driver’s LicensePreferred: Master’s degree with emphasis in Sports Management. Teaching experience and coaching an athletic team.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Work may be performed in a gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium and outdoors recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 25 pounds and other limited physical activities. Occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.Travel to games is required. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members, parents and medical professionals may be required. Contacts with community and division-wide level staff may require considerable tact and diplomacy. Frequent direct contact with general public, media and program participants. Periodic state or regional travel, including overnight stays is required.
