Who you are – VP, Residential Loan Operations

What you'll do

  • Oversees HFCU's Mortgage Processing, Underwriting, Closing, QC and Residential Mortgage Servicing Teams. Ensures full adherence to policies and procedures as well as exceptional standards of member service including loan fulfillment, problem resolution, and other key metrics.
  • Represents the credit union in a professional manner; provides quality service to members and internal customers.
  • Using a data driven approach, continually monitors mortgage operating results and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and execute programs and processes that will enhance operational effectiveness and service strategies that differentiate HFCU from competitors. Reviews annually updated disclosures for ARM loan products and Heloc Important Terms to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Prepares recommendations for HFCU Pricing Committee, and HFCU Product Committee, as necessary. Attends meetings as requested. Makes recommendations on Marketing campaigns
  • Monitors QC functions and ensures all tasks are executed within appropriate time in accordance with CU policy, secondary market standards and regulatory compliance, Ensures accuracy of the HMDA LAR, and annual filing. Communicates with outside compliance contractors regarding reviews, coordination of audit fulfillment and appropriate corrective actions to exceptions. Performs renewal of the organization’s LEI identifier, when appropriate.
  • Maintains industry sound underwriting practices and regulatory requirements. Evaluates all supporting documentation and appraisals to ensure items meet secondary market standards and requirements. Performs an underwriting quality review on each loan for product and compliance conformance prior to loan closing.
  • Works cross-functionally in support of growth and advancement within relevant business lines. Participates in organization-wide initiatives and projects
  • Reviews, evaluates, and verifies the accuracy of the loan product and pricing for each loan. Identifies all possible counteroffer situations to ensure the applicant’s options are fully determined and that fair lending was applied on all cases with the underwriter.
  • Reviews final mortgage loan determination and communicates decisions and loan status to the appropriate staff in a timely manner. Assigns to mortgage processors to communicate approvals/conditions to applicants, to update the MortgageBot system and issue appropriate documentation, i.e. commitment letter, denial or counteroffer.
  • Assigns loans and mortgage department projects to processing staff based on application volume and department needs. Directs the mortgage loan processors and underwriter as necessary for the initial and timely follow up on all required items.
  • Utilizes the daily mortgage loan production reports and maintain their accuracy.
  • Assists Mortgage Origination, Mortgage Servicing and other credit union departmental staff as necessary.
  • Maintains Fannie Mae reports to manage loan deliveries to investor market. Works with investors to clear exceptions.
  • Reviews exceptions and makes recommendation for loan committee or board approvals.
  • Trains, directs and manages the mortgage processing staff which includes setting schedules, approving leaves, reviewing performance, counseling and disciplining.
  • Interfaces with vendors and other 3rd parties to provide and expand mortgage department services.
  • Report all problems or adverse situations to the SVP Loan Operations as they arise and handle accordingly as instructed.
  • Participates in administrative functions and field development/enhancement in MortgageBot, DocMagic, FICS and XP2 systems to best streamline operations and meet the department needs.
  • Ensures all qualified members with acceptable ratios are cross sold Home Equity Lines. In addition, verifies the department has referred the member to branch personnel for cross selling HFCU core products such as checking, debit card, Mastercard.
  • Makes recommendations to the SVP Loan Operations for department improvements and assists in product development.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required: 

  • Strong desire to work in a purpose driven organization
  • Strong leadership qualities with a big picture and pragmatic approach, leading effectively through setting a vision and coaching, motivational techniques, and conflict management
  • 10 to 12 years of experience
  • Demonstrated capability and passion for developing talent and a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engagement
  • Strong delegation and team building skills with the ability to support a team and the team’s work embracing ownership, accountability, and responsibility
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at the senior management level and across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent analytic, organization, presentation, and facilitation skills; ability to lead multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize workload and to work independently
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Education/Certifications/Licenses

  • A college degree
  • Must become registered as a Hanscom Federal Credit Union Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

MENTAL AND/OR EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
