Our dynamic and evolutionary client is seeking to contract with a highly capable and motivated I&C Human Factors Engineer to work as part of a high performing team of engineers.
The successful candidate will integrate and coordinate with other departments, project partners, regulators, and outside organizations working on procedure development.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for interfacing and supporting geographically diverse and international design team members to develop supporting design documentation. The design team members include in-house and subcontracted resources and may include partner/customer resources as well.
- Conduct and oversee task analyses for displays, controls, to develop the strategy for monitoring, control, and protection functions for various plant systems.
- Collaborate and oversee system communication and implementation of Human System Interface Design requirements
- Collaborate with Operations and Engineering for input on Human Factors Engineering tasks analysis and screen development.
- Lead design of I&C systems and sub-system functional requirements through final design.
- Validate the human-system interface aligns with the simulator, plant operating, abnormal, surveillance, and emergency procedures
- Interface with a team of internal and external customers, suppliers, partners, licensing, and regulatory authorities on technical issues.
- Provide direction to team members and assist the I&C Safety System Design Manager with oversight of team members and suppliers.
- Develop and review system- and component-level specifications and scopes of work.
- Perform engineering and design evaluations in the application of nuclear codes and standards, licensing requirements, and NRC regulations.
- Analyze and apply regulatory criteria and standards to complex Instrumentation and Control system design.
- Develop and review technical design documents, such as System Requirements Documents, System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, Engineering Design Specifications, etc.
- Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, working with the contract administrator to ensure delivery of data and other deliverables to meet client requirements, as well as coordination and performance of technical reviews of deliverables.
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices in order to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
- Integrate I&C with work of other disciplines, engineers, scientists, and subject matter experts.
- Interface with and support licensing activities associated with Safety Analysis Reports.
Requirements
- M.S. or PhD Degree in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering or equivalent or 8 years experience in Operations and Human Factors Engineering
- Familiar with NUREG 0700 and NUREG 0711 required.
- Experience in the nuclear industry to include nuclear plant emergency operating procedures, abnormal operation procedures, and human factors reviews is highly desirable.
Qualifications
- Use knowledge of HFE and plant operating experience drive requirements and design details for control system user interface
- Candidates must have experience in instrumentation and controls development, diagnostics, and implementation with a demonstrated ability to design and deliver industrial I&C platforms.
- Collaborate with project partners complete Human Factors Engineering Deliverables and tasks
- 5 years of experience with Human Factors task analysis and/or Human Factor Verification and Validation preferred
- Previous experience with nuclear reactor safety systems or nuclear instrumentation systems design.
- Familiarity with implementing design control and development in accordance with nuclear power plant quality assurance (e.g. 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1).
- Experience with Main Control Room design and implementation is preferred
- Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
- Familiarity with working with and/or developing industrial process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping & instrument diagrams (P&ID) desired but not required.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
- Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team s effort with minimal direction.
- Ability to work on multiple simultaneous tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork. Will actively support the client guiding principles.
- Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
Estimated Compensation Range: $105.00 - $145.00 per hour. This range represents the estimated low end and high end of the compensation range for this position. All experience levels considered.
