The Mechanical Design Engineer provides essential services to Hanwha Advanced Materials America, a leader in advanced materials for the automotive industry, by creating 2D and 3D CAD models of plastic and composite parts. As a member of the engineering team, the role supports the design and development of innovative automotive components, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and contributes to a rapidly growing organization. Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and edit CAD models of complex-shaped plastic and composite parts for tooling and drawing purposes.
- Define, generate, and interpret GD&T for 2D drafting.
- Produce comprehensive project drawings to support engineering, validation, and bills of materials.
- Ensure project deliverables are completed on time while maintaining high quality.
- Collaborate with program staff (engineering, sales) and customer engineers to meet goals, adhere to schedules, and resolve issues effectively.
- Work with internal manufacturing and quality teams to incorporate production feasibility into designs while meeting customer requirements.
- Determine scales, perform complex mathematical calculations, and prepare layouts for detailing.
- Stay updated on OEM product development processes related to CAD.
- Flexibility for business trips (e.g., working at the factory for the first 2 months after joining).
- Demonstrate perseverance and a proactive attitude in all tasks.
- Perform additional tasks flexibly as required by the supervisor beyond core duties.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Professional attitude and excellent communication skills with internal and external clients.
- Solid background knowledge in mechanical engineering.
- Experience or familiarity with compression-molded plastic design.
- Preferred: Experience with CATIA.
- Preferred: Understanding of composite materials (e.g., thermoplastics, thermosets).
- Familiarity with GD&T concepts and Automotive OEM requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- High level of initiative and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to plan and execute responsibilities with minimal supervision.
