MRB Engineer – Exempt

The MRB Process Engineer evaluates systemic causes of non-conformance with regard to defects arising during the manufacturing process and as compared to the product definition requirements as defined by the part print.
The Engineer has oversight of MRB engineers in the clinic with coaching aimed specifically at the necessary steps, tools, and processes to “return to print” part families with like defect types.
The engineer will determine classes of QN repair disposition (light, medium, and heavy), and delegate standard repairs to the clinic staff with necessary guidance. The “hands-on” aspect of the role will be providing original content with respect to repair development activities that demands a higher level of process knowledge. Many of these repairs will involve “additive” processes such as plating, welding, coating along with complimentary NDT and heat treatments.
The Engineer will develop where possible in house or quick-turn supply capability to execute standard repairs that could include the following:
• Latent defect weld repair, local H/T, and NDT
• Machine prep, plasma spray, post-machine, inspect
• Machine prep, nickel flash plate, post-machine, inspect
• Blend, NDT, local shot peen
• Thread Repair, followed by insert replacement

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Perform business analysis of the total population of MRB WIP in pieces and value. Trend that value and provide management guidance for attaining a result of a steady reduction of gross and Net MRB value leading to a steady-state of less than 1-2 weeks of sales value in total MRB.
Analyze variations to part print specifications, which effect part form, fit, and function. This analysis will include performing tolerance stacks, metallurgical, NDT, and heat transfer analysis.
Author and maintain Technical Analysis Reports associated with classes of standard repairs by part family or material type.
Capture and document root cause analysis for verified discrepancies. Assist with root causes for systemic shop issues (missed offsets, incorrect technical approach, supplier raw material or outside processing defects)
Work with suppliers to identify and implement rework and manufacturing process changes.
Various other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Participate in training as required
5-10% Domestic Travel required

Requirements:
BS degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering.
15 – 25 years of relatable design or manufacturing experience required.
Able to work in a fast-paced, learning environment to meet quick deadlines.
Experience working with Operations/Process documents, procedures, and records required.
Ability to read-interpret CAD based tooling, component, assembly drawings required.
Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T), and Statistical Process Control required.
Strong familiarity with high-end manufacturing equipment and processes (i.e. castings, metal cutting, turning, coatings, milling, EDM, welding, sheet metal/ composite forming and joining, metal tube bending, castings, metal cutting, turning, coatings, milling, EDM, welding).
Knowledge of manufacturing support processes and systems (i.e. inspection, gauging, data collection, records & reporting, first article approvals).
Experience with customer/supplier interaction preferred.
Proficiency of the MS Office Suite with good writing skills
Proficiency in customer portals (GE Case Records / PW QN’s)
