Position Summary
The Head of O&M will be responsible for managing technical, commercial, contractual, regulatory, and reporting obligations for solar PV and BESS projects in the U.S.
The Head of O&M provides management oversight of O&M activities from remote operations to field operations as well as safety.
This position works closely with all internal departments including Strategy & Operations, Business Development, and System Solutions and external parties including project owners, 3rd party contractors, and external utility counterparties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Business Growth (30%)
- Design and scale the O&M organization to deliver industry-leading, reliable services.
- Develop and implement strategies that drive operational excellence and improve cost competitiveness.
- Create long-term strategies and action plans to enhance O&M capabilities and drive technological differentiation.
- Contribute to business development initiatives to support growth targets and overall business objectives.
- Establish and oversee safety-focused O&M processes and standards.
- Strengthening in-house O&M capabilities through targeted training programs, certifications, and strategic partnerships with OEMs.
- Provide clear growth and development pathways for team leaders under the supervision.
- Explore and execute collaboration strategies to maximize synergies with affiliates across the solar value chain, including EPC and project development.
- Performance & Compliance Management (45%)
- Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure site operations align with contractual requirements.
- Evaluate assets to confirm adherence to contractual, internal, and external standards, and enhance compliance and assessment procedures.
- Maintain a strong understanding of commercial, contractual, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to asset operations.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of industry standards, practices, and processes, and their influence on project compliance, safety, and technical performance.
- Address and resolve critical business matters in collaboration with relevant project stakeholders.
- Deliver consistent performance updates and reports to stakeholders.
- Monitor performance for irregularities and coordinate with subcontractors to resolve issues promptly.
- Financial & General Management (25%)
- Oversee daily project operations, ensuring adherence to standards and minimizing risk exposure.
- Allocate appropriate resources efficiently and validate work completion through data analysis.
- Review O&M and technical service project profitability and ensure alignment with financial targets.
- Develop and manage the annual Operations and Maintenance (O&M) budget.
- Drive technical skill development by managing training center operations.
- Foster open communication with O&M employees to enhance engagement and retain talent.
- Take on additional duties as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.
- Strengthen O&M organizational capabilities and contribute to the acquisition of key talent.
- Demonstrate expertise in contractual terms, cost estimation, budget control, project scheduling, and team supervision.
Education and/or Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Management, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 10 years of professional experience in utility-scale solar and ESS O&M.
- Proven experience in managing O&M staff.
- Expertise in high voltage electrical systems, including utility interconnections.
- In-depth knowledge of the solar and energy storage industries, including system design, operation, key commercial drivers, project agreements, and the ability to manage critical contract terms.
- Familiarity with performance management systems and metrics for solar and energy storage systems.
- Proficiency in office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Up to 50% travel is expected in this role to support business operations and cross-functional collaboration.
