Position Overview
An QHSE advisor is a professional responsible for ensuring compliance with company health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems by identifying potential risks, implementing preventive measures, conducting investigations, providing training, and advising management on best practices to minimize hazards and maintain high standards across a workplace or project, all while adhering to relevant legislation
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Risk assessment and hazard identification:
Conduct site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess risks associated with work activities.
- Incident investigation:
Investigate accidents, near misses, and safety concerns to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Policy development and implementation:
Assist in developing and maintaining HSEQ policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring they are effectively implemented across the organization.
- Training and awareness:
Deliver safety training programs to employees on various HSEQ topics, including emergency response procedures.
- Compliance monitoring:
Monitor adherence to relevant health and safety regulations, environmental laws, and quality standards.
- Auditing and reporting:
Conduct internal audits to assess compliance with HSEQ standards and generate reports on findings and recommendations.
- Communication and stakeholder engagement:
Effectively communicate HSEQ issues to management, employees, and other stakeholders.
- Continuous improvement:
Identify opportunities to enhance HSEQ performance and implement improvements across the organization.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, and quality management systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with employees at all levels
- Analytical skills to identify root causes of incidents and develop preventive measures
- Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and investigations
- Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs
- Relevant certifications like NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) or similar qualifications
Work environment:
An HSEQ advisor may work primarily in an office setting, but will frequently visit work sites to conduct inspections, investigations, and provide on-site guidance to project teams.
Requirements / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field
- Minimum 5 years proven experience roles within the power generation, energy and/or oil and gas industries
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge in aspects of rotating machinery and/or oil and gas facility operations
- Ability to adapt to fast-paced, multi-faceted working environment and new businesses
- Office based role in Houston, Texas
