Position: Van Driver and Backup Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Location: Happy Day Support Adult Day Program, 530 North St, Smithfield, NC 27577
Hourly Wage: $20
Overview:
This dual-role position combines responsibilities as a Van Driver and a Backup DSP. The Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting clients, maintaining the company van, and ensuring a safe and clean vehicle environment. As
DSP, the individual will assist with direct client care when needed, providing support to adults with
disabilities. A candidate will be dependable, safety-conscious, compassionate, and flexible in fulfilling both roles as needed.
Responsibilities:
Van Driver Duties:
Daily Safety Checks:
. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the van is in safe operating condition.
. Notify supervisors immediately of any mechanical issues, safety concerns, or maintenance needs.
Routine Maintenance:
. Perform weekly gas fill-ups (usually on Fridays or as needed).
. Notify supervisors of required services, such as oil changes or tire replacements.
. Take the van in for maintenance or repairs if requested by supervisors. Always contact the supervisor for approval before initiating any work.
Cleaning and Hygiene:
. Perform light cleaning of the van weekly, including sweeping out debris
. Conduct a thorough cleaning and washing of the van's exterior and interior monthly
Client Transportation and Safety:
. Transport clients safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and program guidelines
. Assist clients with entering and exiting the vehicle as needed
. Notify supervisors immediately of any tickets or citations recieved while driving the company van.
Emergency Preparedness
. Maintain a current list of emergency contact information for clients
. Be prepared to respond to emergencies following established protocols.
Communication
.Keep open communication with supervisors about vehicle conditions and client transportation needs
.Provide timely updates if delays or issues arise during transportation
Bakup DSP Duties:
Client Support:
.Assist clients with daily activities, including personal care, meals, and recreational activities as needed
. provide support during field trips or outings ensuring client safety and engagement
Behavioral and Emotional Support
. Participate in training sessions to understand client specific diagnosis, behaviors, and emergency protocols
. Respond to client needs with compassion. Patience, and professionalism
Program Support:
. Step into the DSP role with regular staff are unavailable or additional support is required
. Follow program guidelines and supervisor instructions to ensure smooth operations
Qualifications:
* Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
* Ability to pass a background check and drug screening,
* Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious.
* Compassionate and respectful toward individuals with disabilities.
* Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (¢.g., assisting with mobility devices).
Schedule:
° Monday through Friday with occasional flexibility based on program needs.
Training Provided
Client-specific diagnosis and behavior training
Emergency protocols and safety procedures

Pay: $20.00 per hour
