Diversity, Equity and Belonging Lead Teacher (“DEB LT”) Job Posting for Happy Hollow (March-June 2025 school year)
The Diversity, Equity, and Belonging Lead Teacher (“DEB LT”) for Happy Hollow is a grant-funded stipend position for the rest of the 2024–2025 school year. This position is in addition to a teacher’s current role.
Working closely with DEB co-LT, building administrators, and the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging (“DEB Director”), the DEB LT will promote culturally responsive teaching and anti-racist initiatives, model self-reflection, engage in professional learning, and serve as a “go-to” resource for staff. The DEB LT will play a leadership role in fostering a sense of belonging for all students and staff, with particular attention to historically underrepresented communities.
Responsibilities and Requirements:
- A monthly commitment of approximately 5 hours (10 hours per month for a single DEB LT per school);
- Attendance and active participation at meetings;
- Availability to attend meetings before or after school and evenings (with advance notice);
Regularly scheduled meetings include:

DEB LT(s) and building administrators: 45 minutes/month
DEB LTs and DEB Director: 2 hours/month
In-person (odd-numbered months, after school)
Zoom (even-numbered months, evening):
Building-based DEB Advisory Council (“DEB AC”) : 45-60 minutes/month
DEB co-LTs*: Determined by co-LTs
DEB Advisory Council (“DEB AC”):
Each school has a “DEB AC” led by you and your partner. It consists of staff committed to advancing equity initiatives and raising teacher awareness. Members collaborate with DEB LTs to create content for staff, serve as a sounding board, and assist the DEB LTs and principal in following through on action items. The DEB co-LTs are responsible for:
- Consistently encouraging diverse staff participation in the DEB AC to ensure representation of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, roles, and tenure in Wayland;
- Creating and maintaining monthly agendas and minutes;
- Co-facilitating meetings; and
- Providing monthly updates on the DEB AC’s work at staff and DEB LT meetings.
Professional Learning and Support:
A key aspect of this position is creating opportunities for staff to deepen their understanding of how their race, culture, and identity influence their teaching and student learning and sense of belonging, particularly for culturally and linguistically diverse students. The DEB LT’s and DEB Director have a shared purpose: to cultivate learning communities where all students and staff feel a strong sense of belonging, agency, along with encouragement and support to reach their full potential. We achieve this by:
- Serving as a visible resource for teachers.
- Finding and vetting resources for cultural heritage and history months.
- Offering opportunities for staff to learn about and apply culturally responsive teaching in their classrooms.
- Facilitating staff professional development on topics approved by the Director of DEB and building administration.

Compensation:
