Job Description:

Position Summary

Happy Returns is experiencing rapid growth and has launched multiple facilities, or hubs, in the last two years. We now operate in Pennsylvania, California, and Mississippi. We are looking for an experienced distribution professional to set and execute a vision for automation in our hubs that supports continued growth and lean operations. This is a unique opportunity to impact a large operation at a rapidly growing logistics and technology company. A solid grasp of the landscape of warehouse automation, preferably with a background in engineering, is preferred but a diverse set of experience will also be considered. Reporting to the Expansion and Automation Senior Manager, the Automation & Engineering Manager will:

  • Play a key role in developing our vision for automation across our facilities to support growth and expansion, including as our operations evolve over time

  • Contribute to a strategic long-term-year facilities plan that optimizes available space and aligns with future automation solutions

  • Review engineering plans and assess their validity to ensure we make durable, effective choices with the technology we install in our hubs

  • Stay abreast of the landscape of automation and be opportunistic in gathering and presenting options to apply the best available technologies in our hubs

  • Develop key metrics to track progress against our plans and the return on our investment in automation, with the ability to scale these nationwide

  • Build a deep understanding of day-to-day operations of the warehouse and generate ideas to integrate automation alongside manual processes

  • Create a safe work environment by actively designing and implementing with a safety-first mindset

  • Collaborate with the senior operations team to develop and streamline warehouse procedures which maximize the lifespan and efficiency of our facilities

  • Contribute to an amazing work culture by integrating feedback and ideas from the specialist population and developing systems that inspire great work and collaboration. Our goal is to cement Happy Returns as a top workplace within the local regions.

equirements

We are looking for someone with:

  • B.S. or B.A. degree

  • 4-8 years’ experience designing, planning, or standing up warehouse automation projects, preferably with exposure to vendor management and engineering review.

  • Ability to work alongside software and systems development teams. A technical or analytical background is a plus.

  • Experience in an ultrafast-scaling organization and/or excitement to be a part of one – we are disrupting a multi-billion-dollar industry and are expecting tremendous growth in the near-term

  • Experience setting project standards and proven effective management of those standards

  • Proven ability to participate effectively in and at times lead project teams from idea generation to implementation. Our culture is a critical part of our success, and you need to help drive it.

  • A “get things done” attitude with the ability to pursue work independently and manage high quality results with little oversight

  • Excitement for working in a start-up environment with high level of ambiguity and change

  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
