Medical Technologist

Job Responsibilities

• Perform qualitative and quantitative tests on blood, plasma, urine, CSF, stool, and body fluids using laboratory instruments or manual methods in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Follow procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, result reporting, and recordkeeping.
• Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing is conducted like patient testing.
• Adhere to quality control policies, documenting all control activities, calibrations, maintenance, and corrective actions.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues affecting test performance or results; escalate when necessary.
• Analyze quality control data and take appropriate action to ensure result accuracy and precision.
• Recognize abnormal results and potential test interferences; take or seek appropriate corrective action.
• Perform and document equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Communicate test results professionally to authorized healthcare providers and ensure proper documentation.
• Monitor reagent and supply inventory; order or notify appropriate personnel as needed.
• Participate in hand-off communications and report incidents using the hospital Safety Reporting System.

Qualifications

• Associate's/Cert in MLT or Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, or Laboratory Sciences required.
• 1–2 years of clinical laboratory experience required.
• Medical Technologist (ASCP) certification preferred.
• Experience in of the following departments: Hematology OR Chemistry
• Basic understanding of laboratory equipment, maintenance, and analytic techniques.
• Strong problem-solving, quality control, multitasking, and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to follow protocols, pay close attention to detail, and communicate effectively with team members and healthcare professionals.
