Position Reports to: President
General Function: It is the responsibility of each employee of the Company to understand and promote the Company Mission Statement and Statement of Values while adhering to the Company Code of Conduct. The primary responsibility of this position is the direction, administration and maintenance of approved uniform accounting practices throughout the Company for the purpose of obtaining reliable financial information and maintaining necessary records. This will be accomplished in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines. The CFO must provide accurate and timely financial reports needed to ensure the successful management of the individual locations and the Company as a whole. In addition to all financial reporting responsibilities, this position is also responsible for Accounts Receivable Management, Accounts Payable Management, and Information Technologies Management for the Company.
Experience: A minimum of five years of general accounting experience in a small to medium sized business is required.
Education: A degree in business or accounting and a CPA license are preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: The management skills required include the ability to work well with people; to handle disciplinary matters effectively and objectively; to assign and follow up on work assignments; to administer job specific training guidelines established by the Company; and to communicate effectively with all employees within the Company. The ability to maintain confidentiality is vital.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Personnel Management – The CFO must ensure that all actions taken are in accordance with the policies outlined in the O&P Manual.
- Interviewing and hiring of all direct report employees.
- Determining pay increases, enforcing discipline, and terminating all direct report employees.
- Providing orientation training, job specific training, and any Company specific training as well as refresher training as required for all direct report employees.
- Communicating the Company’s goals and objectives regularly.
- Writing annual performance evaluations for all direct report employees.
- Responsible for leadership of the employee benefit programs including group insurance programs and 401K plan.
- Financial
- Designing and maintaining accounting systems and records in accordance with fiduciary responsibility.
- Establishing and maintaining a system of procedures and controls for general accounting, cost accounting, and budget control.
- Coordinating all accounting functions with all operations within the Company.
- Planning, directing, and conducting internal audits on all required financial procedures on a periodic basis.
- Maintaining and providing all required budget and financial reports.
- Providing other reports or summaries as needed to ensure comprehensive understanding of Company reports.
- Analyzing financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Managing all Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Credit Management functions.
- Coordinate development of capital expenditure plans, as well as the regular reporting of the progress of those plans.
- Supervising the Company’s daily cash position and cash flow requirements, including managing excess cash in coordination with the President.
- Coordinating communications with the Company’s CPA firm.
- Assuring that all locations understand and comply with Company accounting requirements.
- Verifying the inventory audit process is sound and in compliance.
- Coordinating the preparation and filing of all tax returns including highway, fuel, intangibles, local, state, federal, social security, unemployment and sales and others as required.
- Preparing and filing all corporate, payroll, sales and property tax returns.
- Information Technology
- Ensuring that the incumbents are fulfilling their responsibilities as outlined in job descriptions plus other assigned tasks.
- Ensuring that the Company’s information technology hardware and software systems, including all personal computer systems, accounting computer systems and telecommunications systems are maintained in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Ensuring that Company electronic data is secure and protected.
- Ensuring that Company electronic data is backed up daily and audited on a scheduled basis.
- Executive Team Responsibilities
- Formulating and making recommendations to the Executive Team on accounting and budgetary policies, practices, procedures and controls.
- Participating in strategic planning and decision-making
- Maintaining minutes of Board and Shareholders Meetings as directed by the Corporate Secretary.
- Additional
- Assisting the President in determining the insurance needs of the Company including property insurance and workers compensation insurance.
- Maintaining the Central Office facilities.
- Active participation as a Board Member of the Harbin Family Foundation, including accounting and record keeping.
- Accounting and record keeping for the ownership holding company.
- General – As Harbin Lumber Company, Inc. is a group of locations each working individually and as a team, the CFO must be a team player and must develop positive working relationships with all managers.
Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, up to 50 pounds, may be required at times.
Working Conditions: The office is in a good environment. Periodic visits to Company locations will be required.
