HWI has a fantastic opportunity to join our Operations team at our brand new facility in Fulton, MO as an Operations Supervisor. This is a challenging role in which you will be lead and direct our press department operators on the second or third shift.
Summary
The Operations Supervisor plays an integral part in the safe and successful production of refractory products at Harbison Walker Internationals Fulton Light Weight plant. This role is responsible for overseeing the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of electrical fixtures and control equipment from a PLC standpoint to ensure that equipment and wiring are to code and optimal levels of quality and safety are met; the Operations Supervisor is responsible for making changes to, maintaining, and upgrading the automated PLC programs at the FLW plant. In addition, Operations Supervisor role will lead a department of operators in our efforts to make quality products in a safe manner while exceeding the quality and deliver standards expected by our customers. Communication and leadership skills are key as this role interfaces with a wide variety of leaders and team members across the plant to achieve our collective goals.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting and modifying ladder logic programs on Siemens and Allen Bradly PLCs; troubleshooting of various VFDs / Motor Controls / Hardwire relay logic electrical processes.
- Changing PLC programs for efficiency and aid in process improvement; replacing PLC/upgrading PLC’s.
- Programming and troubleshooting robotic issues at packaging lines
- Identifying, analyzing and troubleshooting electrical malfunctions in equipment and related components, diagnosing, and correcting the problems quickly to avoid production delays; performing electrical preventative and corrective maintenance on plant equipment
- Complying with established facility safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding and other regulations as applicable. Writing and updating Safe Operating Procedures: Maintaining safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations and identifying, reporting and correcting at risk situations and behavior.
- Leading and organizing shift activities to maximize productivity of the line including incorporating key communication meetings, preventative maintenance, training, and feedback to the team. Managing all aspects of their team including payroll approval, vacation approval, performance management, communication and coaching and feedback as required.
- Audits and observes to ensure our product meets or exceeds quality standards. Owns Quality Control compliance for their assigned working area.
- Analyzing equipment operations, performance, problems and secures resources to ensure issues are resolved quickly and properly. Partnering with maintenance to solve equipment changes and problems.
- Calculating and reporting of production key performance indicators and deliverables for their team. Leads production tier meetings.
Requirements
- Rockwell Automation Studio 5000
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware.
- AC, DC, Analog Circuits
- Utilization of tools such as trends, trap logic, historization for debugging and troubleshooting.
- Proficient in Ladder logic
- Knowledge of Function Block and Structured Text is a plus.
- Knowledgeable in Safety Logic
- Ability to Configure and Troubleshoot Ethernet Communication Protocol
- Ability to troubleshoot and configure Variable Frequency Drives
- Power flex 525 Series over Ethernet
- Power flex 750 Series over Ethernet
- SEW Euro drive over Ethernet.
- Utilization of MOVITOOLS would be a plus.
- Knowledge of open loop and closed loop control
- Ability to Troubleshoot Burner Control Units, Flame Controllers, Fire eye, Temperature Controllers
- Ability to work with Kuka Robots, rehoming, troubleshooting, utilization of Teach Pendent to manipulate arms.
- Ability to navigate and troubleshoot Human Machine Interfaces in particular Inductive Automation, Perspective and Vision
- JSON and Python are not necessary but would be a plus.
- Knowledge of SQL Databases is not necessary but would be a plus.
- Demonstrable knowledge and skills for electrical installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and pneumatic systems and equipment
- Strong understanding of Lean manufacturing principles
- Understanding of basic safety/OSHA standards. Including arc flash
- Strong people skills in dealing with coworkers, contractors and vendors.
- The Operations Supervisor requires three (3) – five (5) years of experience in PLC programming, preferable Allen Bradley 5000 Suite and Siemens Step 7.

- Physical Activity: Requires more than two-thirds of time reaching climbing/balancing; two-thirds of time standing, kneeling, crawling speaking/hearing; and less than one-third of time sitting,
- Lifting: Requires lifting to one hundred pounds less than one-third of the time.
- Vision: Requires accurate close and distance vision, color vision, and the ability to focus.
- Environment: Requires two-thirds of the time working near moving mechanical parts and less than 1/3 working in high, precarious places, exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, and/or in extreme heat.
- Noise: Requires exposure to very loud noise.
