Summary
As a Lowboy Driver / Mechanic, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining lowboy trailers and other heavy equipment, ensuring safe and efficient transportation of vehicles and materials. Reporting to the Superintendent, you will utilize your core skills in truck driving and equipment repair, while leveraging premium skills in handling lowboy and drop deck trailers. Your relevant experience in delivery driving and route management will be essential for timely deliveries. The following list contains many of the duties to be performed but is not all inclusive. They are:
Maintain all company equipment and trucks
Review all maintenance procedures and schedules for existing and new equipment.
PM and fix small power tools
PM and fix outboard engines
Perform VA state safety inspections on all vehicles
Ensure the vehicle is properly loaded
Ensure load is properly secured
Promptly report all accidents involving driver or company equipment and any delays due to jobs, breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions, or other emergencies, or any irregularities relating to pickup or delivery of freight.
Run for parts when needed.
Make small deliveries with pickup or small non-cdl truck including pull behind compressors, pumps, light towers, supplies, etc..
Assist in keeping the shop and yard clean.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Maintenance Mechanic must meet the following requirements and standards:
Must have knowledge and experience with but not limited to: hydraulic systems, gas engines, diesel engines, electrical systems, drive trains and various hand tools.
Submit all paperwork and documents required by Federal D. O. T., and Harbor Dredge & Dock in a timely manner.
Provide constant feedback to Supervisor, Project Manager, and/or Operations Manager
When required, unload and load trailer, either with or without assistance of other workers properly perform task to assure safety and to prevent damage to machines.

Must be class “A” CDL certified
Flatbed and lowboy experience highly desired
Must own basic repair tools (list will be supplied).
Must be knowledgeable of proper tool usage
Must demonstrate a proficiency in maintaining and repairing equipment in a safe and productive manner.
Must communicate with Lead Mechanic on all aspects of equipment repair, lubrication schedules and major purchases.
Must accomplish his/her work in a reasonable time frame so as not to delay the job schedules.
Must maintain the service/lube truck, and show up to work on time every day.
Must be willing to travel to any and all job sites without exception (including staying away from home if necessary).
Must comply with established company safety and operating rules, procedures, and guidelines in a safe manner in order to avoid personal injury and equipment damage.
Must have a valid driver’s license in the State of Virginia (having or willing to obtain a commercial driver’s license a plus).
Must be able to occasionally lift and carry 100 lbs.
Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, and work in rough terrain in order to access equipment and make necessary repairs.
Must be able to work the hours necessary in order to achieve the goals of the company.
Safety:
Maintain safe driving record as required by Harbor Dredge & Dock
Provide a positive representation of the company by demonstrating safe, responsible driving practices. Operate company vehicle in a safe manner by applying knowledge and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, or in tight loading areas. Ensure equipment defects are reported immediately.
Keep tractor interior clean and orderly.
Must posses a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License with no pattern of moving violations/accidents in either a personal or commercial vehicle.
Must posses or be able to obtain a current DOT physical card.
Must meet DOT and company requirements related to drug and alcohol testing.
Two years of applicable tractor-trailer driving experience preferred.
Must meet requirements of being 23 years of age or older
Must have knowledge of and comply with DOT regulations governing safe driving, and permits
Must be able to work required hours.
