Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit.
We are seeking a highly qualified full-time Housekeeping Manager to join our team to deliver excellent services for our residents and staff. The ideal candidates will have senior living experience (e.g., long-term care, assisted living, memory support) with a passion for working with an elderly population. The Manager of Housekeeping is responsible for overseeing all operations of the Housekeeping Department within established quality care and service standards. The Housekeeping Manager ensures the department operates within budgetary guidelines while maintaining, or exceeding quality care and service standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, and evaluate the EVS functions, while meeting and/or exceeding quality care and cleanliness service standards. Execute department operating plans according to budgetary guidelines, making timely recommendations for necessary capital equipment improvements as needed.
- Ensure that EVS staff are appropriately oriented and trained, as documented in writing regarding job specific duties, with a good understanding of the residents’ population. Ensure strong focus on safety, infection prevention and control, safe handling of chemicals, materials, and equipment, effective practice of thorough cleaning techniques, service excellence, and appropriate standards of appearance.
- Properly train departmental team leads as an effective extension of departmental leadership, including frequent check ins. Provide ongoing professional development, guidance, leadership, and redirection as needed.
- Fairly and consistently apply Human Resources policy and procedures, including the areas of scheduling, training, work assignments, promotions, etc. Regularly monitor staff and departmental performance, taking prompt corrective action when necessary.
- Ensure a regular EVS service staff schedule is maintained and properly communicated. Inspect public/common areas, and private resident areas to ensure high cleanliness, health, and hygiene standards are consistently upheld.
- Establish and maintain productive relationships and positive communication with management of all departments to ensure prompt, thorough, effective delivery and follow through of EVS services.
- Implement and monitor positive resident relations and ongoing contact with the EVS staff. Ensure that resident feedback and requests are promptly addressed, and/or accurately relayed to the proper departments in a timely manner.
- Responsible for overall proper inventory management and organization of departmental supplies, equipment, materials, and sanitation. Ensure equipment is consistently in good working order and the department and work areas are organized and neat.
- Ensure all department, administrative, inspection, and regulatory procedures and requirements are appropriately followed in accordance with established safety, health, hygiene, and appearance policies and guidelines.
- Coordinate projects and maintain accurate records. Develop and implement an annual department-wide quality assurance program, monitor progress, and adjust focus areas as needed. Implement EVS safety and loss prevention programs. Monitor adherence to safety rules and regulations and take corrective action as needed. Participate in all fire drills and emergency preparedness programs.
- May work, when necessary, beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and in other positions. Provide weekend, holiday, and evening on-call. Expected to report to work on time and work the full established schedule.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. College courses in management and/or business strongly preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively related EVS work and management experience.
- Prior experience in a long-term care setting preferred, with a strong focus on safety and high-quality productivity.
- Ability to effectively provide EVS supervision to a large, diverse team in a continuing care retirement community.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication, serve as role model for service excellence, and able to work effectively as departmental manager, member of the team, and independently.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills, high self-initiative, and ability to accurately follow and deliver verbal and written instructions in a timely manner.
- Skilled at working with the elderly population in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience and compassion. Perform duties with consideration for residents' rights, demonstrate integrity and discretion in care of residents and their health information.
- Knowledgeable with safe and appropriate use of cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Ability and competence to operate computer, applicable software programs, and other standard office equipment.
- May require working beyond normal scheduled hours, on weekends, and in other positions as needed.
- Must be able to sit, stand for extended periods of time, stationary positions at certain times during the workday, walk, move about the facilities inside and outside, ascend/descend stairs, reach, turn, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, balance, maintain body equilibrium to prevent falls, reach overhead, grasp with both hands, fine manipulation, coordination, and repetitive motion.
- Able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs. (unassisted) and/or up to 20 lbs. (unassisted) to move objects.
- Able to work effectively with the elderly population in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience and compassion towards the elderly. Perform duties with consideration for residents’ rights at all times, demonstrating integrity and confidentiality in the care of residents.
