Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit.
The Safety & Security Officer is responsible for the security and safety of the building, grounds, employees, guests, vendors, and residents. The Safety & Security Officer is the first responder to all building emergencies and Independent Living residents. Represents Harbor’s Edge during each designated shift by maintaining a calm demeanor and a friendly personality while providing the highest level of customer service. This position is considered an essential personnel position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts regular and random security rounds inside and outside of the facility to ensure the safety and security of the building, grounds, employees, guests, vendors, and residents.
- Completes required paperwork, logs, and incident report documentation by the end of shift for all security-related matters.
- Respond promptly to security/fire alarms. Follow established procedures for contacting appropriate authorities, assisting residents and staff, etc. Assist nursing staff in emergency calls.
- Respond promptly to emergency call system activation in an Independent Living residence. Follow appropriate procedures and training to assess residents’ needs. As necessary, call for assistance from nursing or external emergency services.
- Report any suspicious incidents or perceived threat to the facility to management immediately, completing all required documentation by close of business on the day of the occurrence.
- Monitor emergency alarm systems and closed-circuit TV cameras to identify potential security risks and/or individual safety concerns and report any incidents to management immediately.
- Monitor and control building access for employees, guests, vendors, and residents. Ensures all check-in procedures are conducted and documented to include COVID vaccination status procedures.
- Ensure all employees and visitors have proper credentials for accessing buildings and parking. (ID badges and parking passes (ID Badges and parking passes).
- Dispatcher responsibilities include receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, monitoring driver logs, keeping records, addressing problems, and dispatching appropriate team members.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- At least 2 years of related work experience in the Safety and/or Security.
- Ability to read, write, follow written and spoken instructions, and communicate effectively.
- Valid Virginia driver's license with no restrictions.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
- DCJS Armed or Unarmed Certification preferred.
- Ability to work with the elderly in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience, compassion, integrity, and discretion.
- Knowledge of security procedures and equipment.
- Knowledge and skills necessary for emergency first response within community.
- Computer literate with good organizational skills and attention to detail.
