Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit.
We are seeking a highly qualified Vice President, Facilities Services to join our Administration team in delivery of excellent care for our residents, with a passion for working with an elderly population. The ideal candidates will have senior living experience (e.g., long-term care, assisted living, memory support) and/or healthcare facilities experience. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position is responsible to maintain and improve the company’s infrastructure, align productivity effectiveness with cost efficiency, strategic business goals, and long-term facility plans.
This position will provide oversight for all aspects of facility operations, including buildings and grounds at Harbor’s Edge. Responsible to ensure high quality services are consistently provided in a safe, timely manner for assigned departments and areas including Plant Operations, Life Safety & Security, and Environmental/Housekeeping Services. Will ensure continual organizational regulatory readiness requirement adherence and compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines, as well as maintain current facility policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the smooth functioning of all assigned departments and areas and meet all regulatory, federal, state, and local compliance and requirements to include Plant Operations, Life Safety & Security, and Environmental/Housekeeping Services. Other departments and areas may be assigned per business needs.
- Maintain proper upkeep of all properties, buildings, and grounds, and equipment, with capital project recommendations and implementation as needed. Adhere to all applicable building codes, safety standards, and environmental compliance. Oversee major renovation, construction, and improvement projects within the facilities, including project planning, budgeting, and contractual management.
- Ensure continual safety of residents, employees, and visitors through appropriate safeguards, policies, initiatives, and ongoing training and preparedness. Monitor and address facility issues, including emergencies, to minimize disruptions and ensure safety. Implement and maintain comprehensive facility operations risk management strategies, including current emergency preparedness plans.
- Ensure assigned departments and areas optimize safety, cost efficiency, and effectiveness in daily activities, with focus on continual quality improvement. Adhere to all required regulatory agency procedures, state and federal requirements, and in accordance with Harbor’s Edge’s established safety, health, infection prevention, and hygiene policies and guidelines. Participate in surveys/audits and development/execution of correction plans.
- Participate in a variety of organizational projects and programs. Ensure appropriate budgeting, staffing, quality improvement and efficiency monitoring, and proper reporting mechanisms.
- Align teams’ actions and productivity, assign tasks, identify safety and risk areas, and implement strategic precautions and measures which are trained against, regularly monitored, and updated as needed for a high functioning continuing care retirement community. Provide ongoing support and guidance to direct report management and staff.
- Establish and maintain productive relationships and positive communication with all management, teams, staff, residents, as well as external partners, vendors, and general public. Collaborate with other departments to integrate assigned areas with overall business objectives.
- May work, when necessary, beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and in other positions as needed. Provide weekend, holiday, and evening on-call and assisting with staffing as needed. Expected to report to work on time and work the full established schedule.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Facilities Management, Engineering, or related field.
- At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management, healthcare regulatory requirements, with a proven track record of managing, assessing, training large teams and documentation.
- Prior experience in continuing care retirement communities, and/or long-term care setting, and/or healthcare facility. Strong focus on safety and supporting high quality healthcare delivery including effectively managing projects and deadlines across departments and disciplines. Knowledgeable regarding applicable regulatory requirements and safe handling, implementation, and storage of equipment, supplies, and chemicals.
- Highly proficient in project management and budgeting. Expertise in building systems and designs (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical equipment), best maintenance practices, auto fleet, life safety protocols, and risk management.
- Skilled at working with the elderly population in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience, compassion, integrity, and confidentiality. Perform duties with consideration for residents’ rights at all times.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership, supervisory/management, analytical, interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication, and presentation skills. Model service excellence and serve as an effective resource with appropriate leadership, guidance, knowledge, and information.
- Perform independently and exercise good judgment. Supervise, direct, and review the work of other employees, conduct performance reviews, take corrective action, and oversee activities of multiple departments and areas.
- Demonstrate keen attention to detail, observation skills, organizational and time management skills, business acumen, high self-initiative, and ability to accurately follow and deliver verbal and written directives in a timely manner. Expected to operate effectively under pressure of deadlines and other stressors, remaining calm and professional.
- Proficient in utilizing computers and various software programs (e.g., Word, Excel, multiple ticketing and tracking systems, life and safety, resident services, reporting systems, regulatory programs, etc.).
- Able to sit, stand for extended periods of time, stationary positions at certain times during the workday, walk, move about the large complex of buildings and operational areas, inside and outside, ascend/descend stairs, reach, turn, bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel, sometimes in remote/physically tight locations inside and outside, balance, maintain body equilibrium to prevent falls, reach overhead, grasp with both hands, fine manipulation, coordination, and repetitive motion.
- Able to frequently exert up to 50 lbs. (unassisted) and/or lift up to 25 lbs. (unassisted) to move objects, with ability to carry, transfer, push, pull, and reposition with assistance or by using appropriate equipment.
