About Harbour Youth Alliance

Harbour Youth Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families of neurodiverse children, particularly those lacking a strong support system or community. Our mission is to create a nurturing environment for children to thrive and empower families through education, support, and resources. Services include parental training, safe spaces for children, guidance on diet and its effects, and a 24/7 support line.

Position Summary

As a volunteer board member of Harbour Youth Alliance, you will play a vital role in guiding the organization’s strategic direction, ensuring its mission is fulfilled, and supporting its operational and financial health. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for individuals passionate about helping neurodiverse families and building inclusive communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Oversight:Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate the organization’s effectiveness, financial health, and programs.
  • Fundraising and Advocacy:Actively participate in fundraising activities, including donor engagement and event planning.
  • Advocate for the organization within personal and professional networks.
  • Governance:Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, including bylaws and nonprofit regulations.
  • Attend and participate in quarterly board meetings and special meetings as needed.
  • Support and Guidance:Provide expertise in areas such as finance, marketing, HR, legal, or nonprofit management.
  • Act as a mentor and advisor to the executive leadership team.
  • Community Engagement:Help promote Harbour Youth Alliance through events, partnerships, and public relations efforts.
  • Foster connections with community leaders and like-minded organizations.
Qualifications
  • Passion for supporting neurodiverse families and creating inclusive communities.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: nonprofit leadership, finance, legal, fundraising, community engagement, or strategic planning.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to dedicate 5-10 hours per month to board activities.
  • Commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive board culture.
Preferred Experience
  • Prior nonprofit board or committee service.
  • Familiarity with neurodiversity advocacy, family support services, or similar fields.
Expectations
  • Serve a renewable 2-year term (flexible depending on organization needs).
  • Be an active participant in meetings, events, and committee work.
  • Make a meaningful annual contribution to the organization (financial or in-kind, based on capacity).
